Fred Thompson: 'Enjoy a good laugh'
Chicago Tribune online ^ | 2 MAY 2007 | Mark Silva

Posted on 05/02/2007 6:05:32 AM PDT by radar101

Fred Thompson, the former Republican senator from Tennessee who plays a prosecutor on television’s Law and Order and is watching his own popularity grow from his seat on the sidelines of a presidential campaign that he hasn’t even joined yet, is making it clear what he makes of Democrats in the great Iraq war debate.

“As far as the Democrats, they are adhering to the extent they can to the most left wing element of their base,’’ Thompson said in an interview shown on the Fox News Channel’s Hannity and Colmes last night. “You know, Moveon.org and those folks are running the Democratic party.

“And they're taking extremist positions and doing extremist things,’’ Thompson said. “(Senate Majority Leader) Harry Reid is doing things that I think the American people are going to reject. They're as near to investing in defeat of their own country than anything I've ever seen, and I don't think the American people will forgive them for that. So, they're going through that exercise, and let's just let them go, let's just give them a little rope and see what they do.’’

And he had this to say about the Republican Party’s own labeling of the “defeatist’’ Democrats in Congress: “Our name-calling and harping on them right now is kind of wasted effort as far as I'm concerned.”

Thompson says he will take his time in deciding whether to seek the Republican nomination for president, with polls showing that his name-recognition could provide him with an instant entrée to the race.

I’m going to continue to point this out as long as (a) I am here and (b) it continues.

I wish he would get an eye job or something....we don’t expect people to look their age anymore.

Then he would be fake. It's not in him to do that sort of thing, from what I have observed.

Watching him was a relief. It just sounds like he should be president.

Fred made it clear that he thinks there's "something special going on" and there is a time for the man and a man for the time, and those two points have converged for him.

Really? When and where did he do that?

He is known for not having an entourage, so no personal makeup people and Lord knows he doesn’t need a hair dresser! Fred is who he is and won’t put on a “dog and pony” show to impress the types that like that. I believe that that is exactly the “breath of fresh air” we need. (could I get any more cliche’s into this space?...nope)

We are all his campaign staff and you need to check out all the truly “grassroots” sites that have sprung up for him. Lots of great resouces to be found at all of them.

Something similar happened for Perot, except then there was no internet.

Hannity, not O’Reilly - sorry about that, but he definitely said, sort of under his breath, that his health was more important than any campaign “including this one”. You hear it yourself at http://www.foxnews.com/hannityandcolmes/index.html at approx 43 seconds remaining in the interview, immediately following the statement that his family was the most important thing. Have a listen to the truth and get back to me with an intelligent comment instead of sarcasm.

He said his health was a non-factor in his decision to run because his doctors have assured him it is not a factor.

He said his family and his health are more important than anything including this campaign.

Of course one puts family and health before all else. But he has good health and a supportive family so they are not preventing him from running.

Your argument is vaccuous. Your point is lost. Hear what you want to hear. The only thing that matters is that Fred Thompson will win a majority, not a plurality but a majority of voters. Those voters will hear Fred and not a voice in their head that says what they want to hear.

Of course he said his family and his health were more important than a campaign.

Among Republicans(if you can call him that), only a sawed off, cross-dressing, lisping, adulterous, ego maniac, girly man like JulieAnnie would think anything different. Real men(i.e. Presidents) don’t dress in drag.

Run, Fred, run!!!

Hannity & Colmes interview last night. Where were you? Mom, and jellybean probably have a link to a replay.

Of course one puts family and health before all else.

Do the military in the field in Iraq and Afganistan put health beyond all else? Did Tillman put health and family before all else? Should the Commander in Chief put health and family before all else? Hey, read Gates of Fire or go see 300.

Hear what you want to hear.

I watched the interview and the tape I referred to at foxnews.com. How about you? Get back to reality, man.

You are just wrong. He absolutely was saying that if he thought his health or family would be threatened he wouldn’t run, but that THAT ISN’T the case.

Hannity & Colmes interview last night.

Oh, I thought maybe he stood up on his hind legs and made a speech or an announcement or something.

Where were you?

Where I usually am...not in front of a television. Got a problem with that?

(sung to the tune of “For What It’s Worth”
as performed by the Buffalo Springfield)

There’s something happening here
What it is ain’t exactly clear
There’s a man dissin’ Fred over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it’s time we stop, Fredheads, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down

There’s battle lines being drawn
Thompson’s right, and the leftists are wrong
Fred is out there speaking his mind
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it’s time we stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down

What a field-day for the bots
All they do is diss Fred a lot
Sayin’ he’s lazy, and then this and then that
Close your eyes and you’ll hear a Democrat
It’s time we stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down

Fredophobia strikes deep
Into your thread it will creep
It starts when the bots are afraid
that Fred will run and blow Rudy McRomney away

We better stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
Stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
Stop, now, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
Stop, Fredheads, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down

Why are you comparing CINC functions to a soldier or marine that is busting into terrorist safe house? The CINC should never be in the line of fire.

Perhaps you think the CINC should act like an enraged suicide bomber?

Health is most important and depending on the cohesiveness of one’s family, health can only be second to family.

Yes, the CINC should put health and family before all else. An unhealthy CINC can be a liability. A CINC that neglects his family should not be CINC.

For example, if President Fred Thompson needs say a surgery, then he would be right to postpone important matters of state until he recovers from surgery and can function at his best.

For example, if President Fred Thompson’s wife or children had a medical emergency, then he would be right to postpone important duties until the emergency was past.

I watched the original presentation and heard the internet stream. He said his family and his own health were most important. Where do you get the idea that this is not reality? And where do you get the idea that what he said is somehow not appropriate?

The answer is you think if he is to be President he should sacrifice his family and health, for what?

You got a problem with FDT, then take up another candidate. You’re in the minority here

AND NOBODY HERE CARES A TWIT ABOUT YOUR RAMBLINGS!
