This reminds me of the SNL skit when a college kid is granted one wish and he wishes to see to women fooling around.
The vision is granted - two portly, middle-aged women in flannel walk into the room and grasp each other.

Many become lesbians because of adolescent/pre-adolescent sexual abuse from an older man, which causes them to seek out companionship with women. Another result is that these women decide that being fat is a good way to keep predatory men from them, or make it easier for them to defend themselves by reducing the mass differential between them and the predatory man.

CORRECTION: Obese women, twice as likely to be lesbians. Yes, I think that's a significant correction.
Gay men are wired to go after men. Gay women, on the other hand, are playing the hand they were dealt -- not attractive to men, so their interest molts into accommodating the idea of being attracted to women. Big difference.

Possible physical cause: high blood sugar and metabolic disorders leading to high androgen levels - polycystic ovaries. Lesbians are affected at a higher rate.
Possible psychological cause: lesbians don’t care how they look - they aren’t competing for men.
Possible reverse psychological cause: Harsh rejecting denigration of fat women causes some to turn lesbianism.
