Now, how would one disarm the American population? First of all, federal or state laws would need to make it a crime punishable by a $1,000 fine and one year in prison per weapon to possess a firearm......
The disarmament process would begin after the initial three-month amnesty......
Special squads of police would be formed and trained to carry out the work. Then, on a random basis to permit no advance warning, city blocks and stretches of suburban and rural areas would be cordoned off and searches carried out in every business, dwelling, and empty building. All firearms would be seized. The owners of weapons found in the searches would be prosecuted: $1,000 and one year in prison for each firearm. Clearly, since such sweeps could not take place all across the country at the same time. But fairly quickly there would begin to be gun-swept, gun-free areas where there should be no firearms. If there were, those carrying them would be subject to quick confiscation and prosecution. On the streets it would be a question of stop-and-search of anyone, even grandma with her walker, with the same penalties for "carrying."

Agree. My previously liberal bro-in-law (from MA) adopted conservatism once he accumulated some wealth and got sick of the taxman’s constant demands. Which just proves that some conservatives are liberals who were mugged.
Slightly off-topic, but contrast him to the police officer who took my report of some yoyo's stealing armloads of my firewood when I lived in upper New England (where firewood is still used by many for home heating).
I told him I was a little embarrassed about reporting something so trivial when the police probably more important things to do.
To which he said "Some people think that stealing firewood is a hanging offense". I waited for an indication he was joking, but it didn't come. He was being serious.
Massachusetts, like Kalifornia, is a lost cause...
Nope, he isn’t. His plan is based on history and there won’t be that much fighting back or opposition. There will be no way to organize and most “cold dead fingers” people will cave in the end, just like in Australia and other places.
Sorry, but the guy nails the plan.
It’s one thing to fight to the death yourself but will you have the wife and kids leave the house first? Or will you arm them and go down as a family? Won’t that look lovely on CNN.
Boston and Martha’s Vineyard, maybe.
That's the same thing they were saying in Australia and Canada.....three weeks was all it took.
Kerry and Kennedy have been repeatedly sent back to the US Senate in state wide elections.....
I don’t have time right now to count them up, but I wonder exactly how many provisions of the Bill of Rights this scheme would violate.
I especially like the idea of random searches of dwellings by neighborhood. That’s likely to upset even the most rabid anti-gun fanatics.
Great minds think alike, and all that stuff...
Seriously, this Diplo Boy doesn't seem to grasp the Bill of Rights very well, does he?
Not to mention the armed resistance his "Special squads" would likely encounter, not merely from law-abiding citizens, but even criminals. Hell, if I were a crook, I'd be damned if I willingly gave up one of my tools of the trade...
And, as Flavius mentioned upstream about cocaine shipments, weapons- like drugs- are a small-bulk, high markup item-- a smuggler's dream. The UK tightened up their already draconian gun laws, and saw gun crimes jump 242%...
British Gun Crime up 242 Percent; Post Says 'Laws Seen As Curbing Attacks'
Won’t argue that, just making the point that there are some conservative bastions there. Of course many of them move down here once they retire. A ‘damn yankee’ is a yankee who moves south and you can’t get rid of ‘em.
It is a theory of mine that you can tell how the majority of the population of an area thinks by looking at their elected representatives. Mass people may be gun owners, but obviously it's not high on their priority list or they wouldn't keep voting for hard core anti-gunners like Kerry and Kennedy.
And just because they're gun owners would they have the stones to go into a life or death confrontation with the police to keep their guns? Your ancestors did. The redcoats were the lawful authority of the time, and by the time they made it back to Boston, they were being sniped at by thousands of militia. This in a set of colonies where the total colonial population was less than 12 million. But today? I've lost faith in America. We've become a country of wimpy dependents and not just picking on the northeast either.
I am amazed that people who are so concerned the government might monitor their international phone calls to numbers associated with al-Quaeda types and fear the government wants to regulate their behavior in the bedroom, find it so easy to insist on suspending a wide range of fundamental civil rights when it comes to private ownership of firearms.
Yes it would. And rightfully so, since the government would be acting in contravention of the Constitution. They are not getting mine, either - ever.
I have spoke with numerous members of L.E. about the issue of what if. They are in total agreement with you. Registering your guns is not smart by any stretch.
Some would on their own, but put 5 or 6 of them together and it would be a whole different story.
Ask any sociology major about the difference between an individual or small group and a mob. Alone they might surrender meekly, but put a few hundred like minded people together and, well, isn't that exactly how riots are formed and perpetualted. People doing things together they would never imagine doing alone.
I've lost faith in America.
Buck up, man! It ain't over 'til it's over. If good conservatives quit the fight we are truly doomed.
Preachin' to the choir. Born and raised in Georgia.....
1 sheriff I know of keeps his gun records in the file cabinet closest to the paper shredder for just such an emergency...
Would that really end violence?
Those who want to inflict damage could learn a lot about weaponry from radical Islamists. Instead of drive-bys and school shootings, we’d have car bombs and IEDs planted all over the place.
I guess Danny Boy and the rest of his Islamist backers would consider that a huge victory, because at least there’d be no more gun violence.
Another totalitarian, utopist idiot who doesn’t realize he’d be the first beheaded were his ideas to succeed.
