April 26, 2007 -- Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama laced into Rudy Giuliani yesterday after the GOP front-runner sparked an uproar by declaring America would be more vulnerable to a terror attack with a Democrat in the White House.
Former Sen. John Edwards and the Democratic National Committee also joined in on the anti-Rudy romp, accusing him of politicizing the war on terror in a daylong brawl.
Giuliani chuckled about the swirl of Democratic outrage about his comments, which put the media focus squarely on his strongest point - his 9/11 performance.
"It sounds like I hit at least a triple," Giuliani told radio host Sean Hannity. "I was trying for a home run, but I think I got at least a triple - meaning I have got the three leading Democratic candidates attacking me."
The flap started after Giuliani said in a speech in New Hampshire on Tuesday night that the nation will defeat terrorism no matter who wins in 2008, but that the Democrats want to "wave the white flag."
He told the Web site Politico.com that America will be "safer with a Republican president."
... Giuliani insisted he wasn't questioning the Democrats' patriotism, but added, "Everything I said is absolutely true - they want to retreat in Iraq."
He claimed that the Democrats "do not seem to get the fact there are . . . really dangerous people who want to come here and kill us. That, in fact, they did come here and kill us twice, and they got away with it because we were on defense, because we weren't alert enough to the dangers."

There are still a lot of conservative democrats here in NC, many of whom vote GOP in secret. I don’t see Edwards EVER carrying NC, as pres or VP candidate.
Duncan Hunter Bump!
“We need leadership from our leaders”
The problem is we have NO leaders, and that is what the pack is vieing for, to become a leader.
“Itll be interesting to see if this comes up in the Dem debate tonight.”
Will the debate be covered on C-SPAN?
MSNBC.

You know, it would be nice if I can read one thread without a call to behead Rudy. Just saying. Some folks here are working harder than DU, Kos and Think Progress.
As if I have to explain. I’m prolife, so it’s a moot point as far as ever considering... but you guys need to lighten up. If Cheney and Giuli wouldn’t have spoken up... who would’ve? Oh, and Fred does... but he doesn’t get the press.
Ok. Ill leave you out of the “we” speech.
YOU deserve whatever YOU get for unconditionally supporting a guy who believes taxpayers should fund abortions, who believes that individuals don’t have the right to defend themselves as guaranteed by the Second Ammendment etc.
Yeah, Rudy is rational about the war against Islamic nutcases and defense of the US in general, and he is good on crime. But on nearly every other issue, he might as well be a liberal Democrat.
Like I said, I’ll vote for him if he is the nominee, but ‘exxccuussee meeee’ for hoping we can do better.
I think the May 3rd Debate will put Guliani on stage with Hunter et al. I think at that point it will be an opportunity to press RG on his second admendment stance and Supremes stance to see what his real intent is in these areas. If someone like Ducan Hunter wants to distinguish himself, he will need to make the lines between himself and Gulliani clear and wide. It will also serve as a chance for Gulliani to clarify his position with conservatives, and possibly gain back some ground. I usually don't think these early "large" debates are useful, but I think this one is going to be under the current state of the candidates.
And what exactly do YOU get if it comes down to Rudy vs Hillary and Hillary wins?
You have a nice day and try not to spit upon our Armed Forces.
‘MiaT’ was banned or suspended.
LOL! I don’t see Edwards even carrying his own Purse. Elizabeth probably carries his as well as her own.
Rudy struck a nerve - good for him. He said something that should have been said a long time ago.
“Its nice to have someone get in their faces = leadership.”
Good point. Anybody seen George W. Bush around lately?
Ok, I self deleted the profanity.
But I'll have you know that not only did I serve in two elite U.S. Army units, in two different 'combat actions' in two different decades, and currently, proudly, support our military now through organizations such as "Operation Gratitude" and directly to the current members of my old outfits by direct donation of tactical and personal comfort supplies.
How you (again, self deleted profanities) can equate criticisim of Guliani with spitting on the military would require many years of clinical psychiatric study which I have not attained.
Then how on Earth can you even think of allowing Hillary or some other Democrat become Commander in Chief?
No..happily not...she’s permanently banished....the death penalty on FR
Super post!
You really are dim. WHERE have I ever said that I want a Democrat in ANY position, even dog catcher???
I just would like to see a real conservative as President. Not a liberal with an (R) next to his name who just happens to be strong on defense.
This is the third time I’ve said it in this thread, and about the hundredth time in other places: I’ll vote for Guliani if he is the nominee. I just hope that we can do better.
