~Nicknames ~ George Herman Ruth, Jr. (February 6, 1895 August 16, 1948), also known as Babe, The Bambino, The Sultan of Swat, and The Colossus of Clout, was an American Major League baseball player from 1914-1935. Ruth is regarded by many historians and fans as the greatest baseball player of all time, due to a combination of his on-field accomplishments and records; his significant roles both in changing the way baseball is played and in establishing the New York Yankees dynasty; and his resulting worldwide name-recognition. He is a charter member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The cat, nicknamed Macavity, has one blue eye and one green eye.
The cat was nicknamed Macavity after the mystery cat in T.S Elliots poem. He gets on the bus in front of a row of 1950s semi-detached houses and jumps off at a row of shops down the road which include a fish and chip shop.
Driver Bill Khunkhun, 49, who first saw the cat jumping from the bus in January, said: It is really odd, the first time I saw the cat jumping off the bus with a group of passengers. I hadnt seen it get on which was a bit confusing.
The next day I pulled up on Churchill Road to let a couple of passengers on. As soon as I opened the doors the cat ran towards the bus, jumped on and ran under one of the seats, I dont think any of the passengers noticed.
Because I had seen it jump off the day before I carried on driving and sure enough when I stopped just down the road he jumped off - I dont know why he would catch the bus but he seems to like it. I told some of the other drivers on this route and they have seen him too.
Since January, when the cat first caught the bus he has done it two or three times a week and always gets on and off at the same stops.
Passenger, Paul Brennan, 19, who catches the 331 to work, said: I first noticed the cat a few weeks ago. At first I thought it had been accompanied by its owner but after the first stop it became quite clear he was on his own.
He sat at the front of the bus, waited patiently for the next stop and then got off. It was was quite strange at first but now it just seems normal. I suppose he is the perfect passenger really - he sits quietly, minds his own business and then gets off.

Since I can be quite a prick I suppose it's one I was cutout for I hear ya! We used to have a radio promo here, asking drivers to please not park in the fire lanes.
I suggested to the city's fire chief that he take another tack. Just let drivers know that the city had just purchased a new ladder truck and that they were welcome to park in fire lanes, if they wished. Their choice. But remember, when a 2 ton parked car meets a 20 ton moving truck, the loser loses in a big way.

I chose OldPossum as my screen name because "Possum" was my nickname as a kid.
I acquired it for always going possum hunting with my grandfather. I lived for a time with my grandparents in a very rural area while my parents were adjusting after a divorce.
I can still vividly remember going out in the night (one hunts possums at night) with my carbide lamp attached to my cap (we couldn't afford flashlight batteries), so we used what coal miners used in that time, a lamp which involved mixing carbide and water; this mixture came out of an orifice which could be ignited with a match; there was a bright steel (or was it aluminum?) cone to magnify and direct the light outward.
We had a cadre of hound dogs who did the real hunting and would tree possums for us. I had my .22 rifle to dispatch the poor critters with.
One time I got so far ahead of my grandfather that I arrived on the treeing scene and despite my grand-dad's calls to "Wait, wait until I get there," I fired away (and this time I missed). But it was enough to infuriate the skunk up in the tree. Just as my grandfather got there the skunk unloaded. The dogs disappeared, not to be seen for several days. When we returned, grandma ordered the immediate destruction of our clothing. It took a while to get rid of the odor, which up close, is unbelievable. I doubt that my grandpa ever truly forgave me.
Why hunt possums? It was a rural recreation. Once my mother remarried and I moved back to the city, I never hunted again.
Anyway, I'm indeed old now and that explains my name of OldPossum.
