Chaos erupted Wednesday outside a House briefing with Army Gen. David Petraeus, the U.S. military commander on the ground in Iraq.
Protestors thronged the halls of the Rayburn House Office Building outside the committee room where Petraeus is briefing members of Congress. The assembled protestors, which included members of Code Pink, shouted for members to bring U.S. troops home from Iraq as the lawmakers entered the room.
Then, Rep. Duncan Hunter of California, the ranking Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, called on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to resign after suggesting the war in Iraq is lost.
That prompted the protestors to shout him down and pandemonium ensued before Capitol Police officers cleared the hallway for reporters, members and aides.
Both parties have scheduled on-camera briefings following the meeting to share their impressions of what Petraeus has to say.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) scheduled a briefing for Democrats on Wednesday afternoon, a day after ABC reported that Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) would not attend the meeting.

Bush was very good at ridiculing the dems his first term. He needs to rediscover that as well.
More like the whole forest!
Obviously had to settle on being a lesbian.
Pray for W and Our Troops
“I don’t know about an ugly stick, looks like the whole dang tree fell on him.”
Or, as we say where I come from - “climbed the ugly tree, fell out, and hit every dang branch on the way down.”
Then that puts him miles ahead of the supposed front runners, not to mention the rest of the spineless ratpublicans! Go Duncan! Blackbird.
BRAVO ZULU, MR. HUNTER!
Excerpt:
"While was able to jet-set around the globe to meet with Syrian leaders, she finds it inconvenient to meet with the U.S. commander in Iraq during his brief visit to Washington," Wilson said. (Representative Joe Wilson R-SC)
Pelosi's absence is notable because Democrats are skeptical of the surge, are trying change course in Iraq and this is Petraeus' first meeting with them since becoming architect of the biggest tactical shift in Iraq in some time.
Another factor of note the Democrats war funding bill requires monthly assessments from Petraeus on military progress in Iraq as the surge continues. Democrats have described these updates as crucial to Congress' ability to measure success in Iraq. Pelosi's absence could be seen by some as undercutting the importance of these monthly briefings
Pelosi issued a statement about her and Petraeus' phone conversation. "I appreciated his report and his responses to my questions on security and political issues in Iraq. We share a conviction that the war in Iraq will not be resolved militarily, and I look forward to future reports from him on the effects of President Bushs escalation plan," she said.
IMO, she didn't attend the meeting so she could put her spin on anything Petraeus might have said in their conversation.
That’s a MAN baby!
Without the Paris Hilton stories.
I dunno...”Hunter/Thompson” might work to our advantage since libs are so stupid they’d think they were voting for “Gonzo”..
The truth is, he’s been a bare knuckler his entire career. Just gets scant coverage.
These protesters that hang around the capital need to really get a job. It’s the same clowns that hang around there day and night trying to get their TV time and the media caters to them.
If nothing else, the GOP letting MSNBC broadcast the debate contrasts them mightily from the spineless Dimmis who went apopleptic when Fox was going to broadcast the Nevada debate.
Harry Reid is such a limp wristed pansy ass compared with Hunter it is not a fair fight.
The bigger question...is how would you know if it was or wasn’t?
Ehrmm... ‘Male’ probably. ‘Man’ most certainly NOT.
I didn’t say he didn’t make sense. I said he bored me. There’s quite a difference.
Those Code Pinkos should have been indicted long ago.
Way to go Duncan Hunter!!
OUTSTANDING, REP. HUNTER!!!
