Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich Sunday blamed the "situation ethics" of 40 years of liberalism for an increasingly vulgar and violent U.S. society. Gingrich said on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" that children are becoming dehumanized by years of playing violent video games, and that liberalism "has created a situation ethics, essentially, zone of not being willing to talk about any of these things."
He also blamed unfettered free speech for making it "impossible to restrict vulgar and vicious and anti-human speech and I would argue that's a major component of what's happened to our culture the last 40 years."
Gingrich said he thought the carnage at Virginia Tech last week would have been less severe if citizens were armed.
"I would just suggest to you that the professor who gave his life to save a class, who himself was a holocaust survivor, had he been in a position to stop this deranged person, would have saved an awful lot of lives, including his own," Gingrich said.
He compared checking gun-buyers for mental illness to keeping tabs on sexual predators.
He isn't one of my favorites. But I recognize his valuable contributions to the cause and his brilliant mind. He shouldn't run for president, though.
If you'd like to be on or off, FRmail me or B. Knotts.
I’m off the list after his global warming comments.
Thanks
An issue low on my list, but I understand that.
“Im off the list after his global warming comments.”
When you find the perfect candidate, let us know.
Thompson.
Decapitations/Guillotine, hangings, burning at the stake, assorted other atrocities all for public consumption. Video games are every bit as violent as those listed real life events that happened in the Middle Ages.
Video games have no consequences, not even a scratch or hangnail. So there is no deterrent to the virtual violence, except the virtual kind. The jump to real violence is much smoother and easier to swallow after this conditioning.
Mine was a targeted response to ph102 regarding the mistaken comparison to Middle Ages and the topic.
You and myself are in agreement. Thank you for your response.
Video games should be banned—even if it is conclusively found that they don’t engender violent behavior. Adults that play video games should have their fingers broken.
Yup. However, I can’t wait to get Super Paper Mario where you can go back and forth between 2D and 3D...guaranteed that’ll make flip out! :)
I’m with Vision.
I asked off the Newt ping list after the Global Warming “debate” with Kerry.
Granted he is smarter than I am and may have a brilliant plan to turn the Global Warning nonsense into a benefit for right wingers by adopting it and making it our own, using junk science Judo to propose free market solutions, but until I hear specifics I’m done.
Giving him the benefit of the doubt, I can only imagine that he plans on saying “hey, if it’s so terrible then we need more Nuclear power plants”, which Dims and Socialists have been loathe to accept.
Ditto. Crime would stop within a week. I’d also have the punishment aired on tv.
LOL. You (and I) can always spot remarks made by the youngin’s.
Did someone suggest banning video games?
Yes. Are you surprised?
;)
