Giuliani Criticizes a U.S. Crackdown on Illegal Aliens

Immigration restrictions gathering steam in the Republican-led Congress would have "catastrophic social effects" in New York City and other large cities, Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani said yesterday. He charged that the proposals violated basic decency and could throw as many as 60,000 immigrant children out of the city's schools and onto the streets.

Once again taking sharp exception with the dominant conservative wing of his own party, Mr. Giuliani said in an interview that the proposed crackdown on illegal immigrants was deliberately intended to play to the public's worst fears of foreigners, and did not take into consideration the positive effects of immigrants on cities like New York.

"It's based on an irrational fear of something different, something strange, that somehow they're going to take something away from us," he said. "A lot of it is just undifferentiated fear of foreigners, of people who appear to have different values or different ways of doing things."

In June, the Congressional Task Force on Immigration Reform, a Republican-dominated panel appointed by Speaker Newt Gingrich, issued a report containing dozens of recommendations on restricting illegal immigration.

The proposals, now being written into bills that are at various stages of consideration in House committees, would require public hospitals to report illegal aliens who seek medical treatment and would require public schools to turn away students who are in this country illegally. The report, which Mr. Gingrich endorsed, is similar to Proposition 187, a measure approved by California voters last November that would cut off most public benefits to illegal aliens.

Translation: My big contributors would have to pay Americans real wages that would eat into their already obscene profits.

There ya go.

Illegal immigration is part of national security. Since national security is number one on my hit parade, and Rudy does not embrace it, he’s off my list.

What did Giuliani have to do with the 9/11 hijackers being in this country? His job wasn’t to enforce immigration policy

Every elected official takes an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States.

This includes protecting the country from invasion.

“A lot of it is just undifferentiated fear of foreigners, of people who appear to have different values or different ways of doing things.”

You are all just low-life racists. Move along, Giuliani knows best.

How many of the countries from which all these immigrants come, would allow American citizens to immigrate to those countries? Darn few, I suspect. Why would it be “inhumane” for the US to be as restrictive in its immigration policies as practically every other country on earth is? WHy must the US, alone among the world’s countries, open its doors to tens of millions of people whose kids will compete with ours for classroom space, whose parents will compete with ours for senior services, and whose breadwinners will compete with us for jobs? WHAT DIVINE LAW REQUIRES THAT THE US BE INUNDADED WITH IMMIGRANTS? CAN RUDY GIVE US THE REASON? OR BUSH? OR HILLARY? (On this issue, they all three seem to think alike)

“I see a lot of polls on how well he might do in an election, but none on winning the nomination. I know that is hard to poll, but myself, I think he has not got a chance.”

You know, you hit it on the head. All this media hype means only that he’s the guy the democrat party would like to see nominated.

Leftists like Hillary want us inundated with immigrants because they think it is wrong that America was mainly white, and wrong that it was so strong. They want to brown us out and cripple us.

Bush...I don’t know what in tarnation Bush is thinking.

“If the Board of Education were forced to search for and report those families, he said, many of the parents would simply not send their children to school, resulting in tens of thousands of children on the street, DRIVING UP CRIME and putting both the children and other residents in danger.”

DRIVING UP CRIME? Whaaaaat? Is he saying these kids are criminals? or they will become criminals? or they will riot as criminals if they are not give government handouts they are not entitled to? Or they have threatened to commit crimes?

Since when has America’s Mayor who brought down the crime rate in NYC been afraid of criminals?

“Tens of thousands of children in the streets?” What does that mean? Dont their family values parents have any control of them? Are they running wild when not in school? Is the school just a free babysitter?

The parents wont send the kids to school? That’s the idea..stay away.. the kids are not entitled or eligible to go to school here...

“Other residents in danger”... They already are... from the kids illegal alien Dads who get drunk and kill the residents on the roads and murder othe residents... What’s going to be new about that?

What’s with the THREATS Rudi?

I know this article is 10 years old but Rudi needs to be reminded about how he really thinks or has spoken and acted on issues in the past...

For the times when he has George Orwellian moments...

These geniuses will end up destroying the Republican Party if they continue down this disingenuous path.

It's deliberate! Liberals can't win except by cheating.
