In my congressional district, Arizona-8, the Republican party ran a liberal in the primary, and supported him financially, mostly through the assistance of the national party and our openly gay, Rino incumbent Jim Kolbe. When the people spoke and nominated Randy Graf, a conservative known for opposing the open borders policies of the Bush Administration, the GOP pulled out, took their money, and went home. Graf lost to an ACLU liberal feminist, who is now my congresswoman, in a majority Republican district. The national GOP told us it was their way or the highway.
That is the type of gaping open wound you see here. It was a betrayal. And I had liberal freepers tearing down my candidate and then blaming me afterward for losing congress. I voted. I supported him in the streets, and they betrayed me and then blamed me for the loss.
The Giulianites wish to do the same and I’m going to fight them now, rather than during the general election.
Now, my main issues are opposition to political correctness religion and support of the Second Amendment. I care about abortion, but I have seen that as settled law for some time. If I can support the right to life I do and will, but my main issues are the right to speak as I please and defend myself, neither of which will be protected by Republican liberals in sheep’s clothing.
This is how I view it. So I suppose you can look at the same thing in two different ways. You see it as a betrayal, and I see it as a political mistake that caused a backlash that affected the party and the future for that matter.
Now I see the answer being proffered is to do more of the same, only with more emphasis!
So you see, this causes me a great deal of heartburn, but they make pill for that, as I have discovered.
It wasn’t a betrayal, it was cutting their losses. AZ8 is a liberal district, it has Tucson the liberal enclaive of AZ. I knew the moment Kolbe announced his retirement the district was going to the Dems, then Giffords announced her candidacy and it was really over. The GOP supported a RINO in the primaries because they figured with him there might be a small chance, IMHO it was money wasted, after the RINO lost the primary they counted the district loss and went elsewhere. Welcome to the sucky side of party politics.
