Breaking on CNN a few minutes ago.
1 plane down in neighborhood, status of pilot or occupants unknown at this time.
Just Damn.
Yes, Sir.
yawn
Well, I love 'em. Great ambassador's for the Navy and they make your pride swell all up. I liked he A-4's better though.
I just saw two F-18’s in the Blue Angels’ colors fly overhead northbound at about 5000 msl. At the moment I’m in Indio, CA, aout 80 nm north of NAS El Centro, where the Angels are based.
CMD Kevin Mannix is a graduate of Lindenhurst HS.
My son is in 9th grade there and he is truly a local hero.
Actually, that is not true. Mr G's cousin was a military pilot, in the first class at the Air Force Academy. He was training a younger pilot and had a plane that was going down. He had the student eject, and managed to arrange to have the wing taken off before it crashed in the mountains. Because the wing was fairly intact (a relative term) they were able to determine it had been sabotaged by a mechanic who had some issue with the student.
His ejection handle was mounted in a frame with a description of what happened.
By the way, he was killed in an airshow accident a number of years ago.
Do you fly this type of aircraft? Pilots have told me that unless all control surfaces are “out”, some ability to control exists.
Thanks, Star. The last time we saw them was 2005, and it was also the only year we got autographs. The condo we rented is only about 5 or so miles from the Pensacola Naval Air Station. The condo building was damaged during Hurricane Ivan in 2005, just after we’d stayed there. The foundation was undermined and the building was condemned. I don’t know if they’ve started building it back or not.
All I’ve got to say is the Great Santini...
Lt. Davis is a native of Pittsfield, Mass., and a graduate of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. Since joining the U.S. Navy in 1996, he has flown a variety of aircraft, graduated from the Navys TOPGUN weapons school and served extended tours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in the North Arabian Sea and Arabian Gulf. Davis, who joined the Blue Angels in September 2005, has accumulated more than 2,000 flight hours and made 150 carrier landings.
“To: Pentagon Leatherneck
“I hate air demo teams.”
Well, I love ‘em. Great ambassador’s for the Navy and they make your pride swell all up.”
I don’t deny they’re thrilling. The problem comes when the mentality sets in “we can be more impressive than those other guys.”
“I liked he A-4’s better though.” That’s because you’re wise and smart.
TC (high-time A-4 driver, in case you couldn’t guess)
Very sad
sorry, it’s worse when you’ve met them. Seen the team many times...always inspiring.
Lt. Kevin Davis, otherwise known as “Kojak.” He is a Boston native, has been flying for 10 years, and was billed as one of the best pilots in the entire Navy.
I just spoke to someone on site.
He is trying to get more info and will call me back.
Stay tuned.
In every branch of the service, pilots are taught to leave an uncontrollable aircraft without delay or any other considerations.
I didn't post what I did to disappoint anyone, its just a fact.
For reasons I fail to understand, there is a need by some to canonize the dead in manners like this. I guess it helps deal with the pain of loss.
I can tell you with certainty, that any military pilot doing anything other than trying to get out of a disabled jet would be working against their training, and should they survive the incident, it would have major implications on whether they were ever given another jet.
Finally found a new tagline.
This just breaks me up.
I dont know what you mean by which squadron, the Blue Angels IS the squadron
