Thompson PAC Benefits Son More Than Republicans
Wall Street Journal ^ | 21 April 2007 | BRODY MULLINS

Management Fees Exceed Political Donations From Tennessee Presidential Hopeful's Account

In the five years since Republican Fred Thompson left the Senate, he has maintained his political fund-raising account -- and it has paid more money to his son than it has contributed to help elect Republicans to Congress, records show.

Mr. Thompson, of Tennessee, announced that he would not seek re-election to the Senate in 2002. But since then, his political action committee has paid $244,000 in "management/consulting fees" to his son's consulting firm in Nashville, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.

During the same period, the Fred D. Thompson PAC donated a total of $225,000 to Republican candidates and party organizations, according to the reports.

...Mrs. Clinton's HILLPAC has paid about $2 million in salaries since 2002, while contributing $2 million to Democratic candidates for office. Mr. Edwards's PAC paid about $1 million in salaries while contributing $200,000 to Democrats when he used it during the 2002 and 2004 elections. Mr. Edwards primarily used his PAC to fund his political career, rather than to contribute to Democratic candidates. Mr. Obama, who only had a PAC for the 2006 election, paid about $500,000 in salaries and donated $770,000 to Democrats.

I wasn’t making my observation in a bigger context. That may be a poor choice in this case for me, as there obviously is a bigger context. Up until the rudy threads, I really tried not to pay much attention to WHO was posting things, because I like to focus on what they are saying, and attack the arguments.

Not my list, dear. I’m referring to post #146 and #150—addressed to you.

Well, first Mia posted what turned out to be her opus "What does it mean to be pro-life". In that thread, at some point she posted this comment, post 126, where she attacked Fred Thompson for being another "washington politician".

It was pretty harsh, and I don't know what happened next, but comments 133-135 are deleted, 137 asks why 133-134 dissappeared, noting 135 still quoted them, (I presume 135 was deleted after 137 was posted).

At 139, Mia T. says she "pulled them because they were wrong. I misread what you said". Some speculate that Mia got moderator privileges and used them to remove her inpolitic comments, I don't know. She asked that 135 be removed in that post (asking the other poster to 'remove his comment' which is odd because we can't edit our own comments.

Then in 140 she says oddly "To be clear, I stand by the statements generally, but they don’t apply to your comments or to the situation here." Might make more sense if I knew what her comments were.

In post 143, she answered the other commenter again, this time again attacking Fred for being a lobbyist, and posting a link to a post of hers from 4/3 attacking Fred through Lamar Alexander, and 4/11 attacking Fred for being a spoiler for McCain.

Remember, this is in her own thread supposedly about what it means to be "pro-life". I think hijacking her thread to highlight her last three weeks of false attacks against Fred, along with her yanking her own false comments about another poster, is what got her banned. Comment 143 was her last post.

Ah, are you under the impression that people don’t say the same types of things about you (calcowgirl)?

If so, dissuade yourself immediately. They do.

I do not know of a poster on FR who more consistantly provides original source documentation with her posts. If you belive these people, you are more foolisly credulous than I could have believed.

I didn’t say I believed them; I said people SAY all kinds of stuff on FR.

And the day that what a bad speller has to say about me bothers me, I’ll contact you.

And it stands.

Holy mackeral Jim.

This is good news.

Without this panzer tank to hide behind, her supporting liberal dung flingers have lost their cover.

Something that I post might actually have a chance to be seen? No longer to be lost in the din and buried by the dust her supporters consistently have raised. Woo Hoo!

You’ve given me a reason to come back more often and to consider posting again.

Thank you.

Fair Opinion - You have been zotted? Oh, the ‘thon is over so the purge has begun.

You’ve been a good freeper and will be missed.

Long overdue, IMHO. I’ve never seen FO express even one conservative opinion.

JR re FairOpinion:

Bye bye troll.

Thank you Jim. My first contribution to FreeRepublic since the California recall election is now going into an envelope.

There are a lot of Freepers who patiently suffered the misery of countering the endless disinformation FairOpinion heaped onto this site. No matter how many times it was refuted with sourced documentation, the deluge continued, flooding the front of a thread with an organized chorus of similar pabulum so that those who don't read far enough down the thread miss the refutation. It was maddening. The destruction to conservatism in this state was incalculable. This is a welcome change.

I have no problem with an honest difference of opinion, as long as it is supported with reliable facts. Honest debate reflecting differences of opinion in policy or politics and whether those preferences are good for America is part of what makes this country great. Character assassination by disinformation or half-truths is another matter. It was the stock and trade of so many who slandered Tom McClintock, of whom FairOpinion was the worst.

I am sending an email to a number of FReepers I know who had left in disgust at the antics of FairOpinion and crew. Hopefully they will respond in like manner.

Bye bye troll.

This one's good for another $50 for the Freepathon. (just as soon as I finish cleaning the garage) Who will match me? Come, $20, $10... brown bag a lunch two days next week instead of going out in honor of this glorious day and give the money to the Freepathon now!

An excellent post. I particularly agree with No matter how many times it was refuted with sourced documentation, the deluge continued, flooding the front of a thread with an organized chorus of similar pabulum.
This was also true of FO's threads: Character assassination by disinformation or half-truths is another matter.

If you take this forum down your path, it leads off a cliff.

This place seems intent on becoming an echo chamber for unelectable candidates (shades of Alan Keyes in 2000). Mia T has been a good conservative and battled against the Clinton media machine for years and she was banned last night and called an abortionist troll which reflects the criminal stupidity going on.

Thank you shrinkermd. I am grateful for this contribution to our forum.

Providing the vehicle to remove a liberal, masquerading as a conservative, was welcomed. Providing the challenge which ultimately lead to the removal of a Republican partisan who had no principles beyond winning was long overdue.

At times I enjoyed the inane comedy that FO provided but I will not miss the account's contributions.

You've been whining for months about how this site is just shades of its former self. If there's too much "criminal stupidity" for you, it seems odd that you continue to post on a daily basis.
