Alec Baldwin issued an apology on Friday for unleashing a volcanic tirade at his 11-year-old daughter and blamed "certain people" for leaking the rant to US media.
The Oscar-nominated star of "The Departed" branded daughter Ireland a "rude, thoughtless, little pig" in a fiery voicemail message that emerged on celebrity websites on Thursday.
It is the latest twist to the bitter legal wrangling between Baldwin and ex-wife Kim Basinger over custody and visitation rights relating to Ireland. The couple split in 2001.
Baldwin's tirade was apparently triggered by Ireland's failure to switch her mobile phone on for a scheduled call with her father.
"Once again I've made an ass out of myself trying to get to a phone at a specific time," Baldwin says in the message. "I'm tired of playing this game with you. You have insulted me for the last time.

Phones are not mystic magic talismans. I've worked with telecommunications all my life and I continue to be amazed to hear people speak of them like Pavlov's bells to drooling dogs. You can trust me on this, I know how they work. It is just a tool of convenience. We should all let the phone ring off the hook once at least every other day.
Feh. It’s just legal bluster. Baldwin hoisted himself on his own petard. He’s the one who will suffer the worst damage by far. This is out there now, it can’t be brought back, and him having lawyers swarm all over to try and find someone is just a sideshow.
The horse is out of the barn, Alec baby, and there’s no putting it back again.
Even if it was Basinger herself who released the tape, the judge isn’t going to give Baldwin points in the custody battle on account of that.
Sometimes you’ve got to break the rules in order to get justice. Somebody did here. Good for her!

Mom’s message of thanks, courage, strength. Dad’s message of rude little pig that needs to have her a@@ straightened out by him. Maybe it would have gone over better if he’d wrapped it around some candy.

The night before, Alec Baldwin belittled her on national TV. He exposed her to unwanted publicity.
What’s the best dodge here? That the daughter herself, a minor, had a copy of the sealed information and released it.
And what is the judge going to do, hold the minor in contempt? Put her in jail? For striking back at her father for his own public humiliation of her.
HA HA HA.
This is easy to beat. The child takes the rap, which is no rap in that case, just a “stern talking to” by the judge. And in the process she otherwise scores a great set of points with the court as to why her jackass father shouldn’t get any custody of the daughter.
Baldwin cannot win this, no matter what. Somebody may get rapped on the knuckles a little bit, but he still loses.

What hasn’t been said is that Baldwin sounded hateful.
There’s a difference between anger and “I want you
dead” kind of hatred.
It looks like he sees his daughter as a prize he’s determined to “win” (or “to not lose”)...shades of the movie, “War of the Roses.” He’d rather hack the child up that give any part to the x-wife.

To back up your theory...take a look at the way he talked about her on Larry King and then on Letterman. EXACTLY what you are talking about here.

On April 19, 2007, Harvey Levin of TMZ.com, a celebrity online gossip website, admitted to me that he intended to publish a tape recording of a voice-mail message he had between Respondent and the minor child. He also told me that he obtained the tape from a source whom he would not disclose to me. He also told me he had information he believed came from the April 18 hearing. I told Mr. Levin that I had no idea what he had, but that what he purported to have had to have come from an improper source. I also told Mr. Levin that the court proceedings had been closed to the public and sealed.
4. I urged Mr. Levin not to go public with the tape recorded message and that the dissemination of what he claimed to have could result in Respondent taking legal action against him or TMZ.com.
5. During my conversation with Mr. Levin, I told him that it was my intention to send a letter to him confirming the subject of our conversation. He provided his address and fax number. A copy of my letter is attached hereto, incorporated herein by this reference and marked "Exhibit A".
I have to agree, it was hateful.
In my opinion, anyone who accuses an 11 yo girl of making them lose control is pathological. Baldwin is responsible for HIS OWN BEHAVIOR. No matter what. Girls and women are not responsible, HE IS RESPONSIBLE.

I only read the transcript, and thought about my own little girl, and then thought about Alec Baldwin’s face, and thought how satisfying it would be to put my fist into it.
I’ll bet you that the way the mother’s side plays this is that the girl released a copy of the tape she kept herself (the naughty thing). What sort of sanction for contempt is the judge going to be able to assess against an 11 year old who was the subject of that harangue by Baldwin? And I’ll bet the daughter plays along too. Rub the guy’s nose in it.
I actually have some saved messages from my angry ex to me. He uses the same word, okay all the time, like I’m supposed to agree during his loud, angry tirades. And he was a verbally abusive bully during our marriage. That’s why he was thrown out of our home! Alec Baldwin has a severe anger problem and I experienced the same. I don’t know if he has or is being verbally abusive to our son YET!
