Move on from abortion? Not on your life!
vanity | April 20, 2007 | Jim Robinson

I hate to say it again, but guess it has to be said:

Free Republic is a conservative site.

As a conservative site, we are pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-liberty, pro-America.

Like-minded folks know immediately what this means and why we will never "move on from abortion" as Rudy Giuliani and his supporters ask us to do.

Think about it.

You might as well be asking us to deny God. To deny the Creator that gave us life and liberty. To give up our children. To surrender our country to the left. To give up our freedom. To give up our faith and our belief in God's Word.

Why insult us like this?

IMHO, the root difference between conservatism and liberalism IS our belief in God. For the most part, we conservatives defend our Christian/Judeo founding and our God-centered traditional American society and family values system, and the belief that our most fundamental rights were bestowed upon us by our Creator. Rights given by man can be taken by man. Rights bestowed by God are unalienable rights.

Liberals, on the other hand, especially the Marxist/socialist liberal leadership and the big leftist feminist, homosexualist, abortionist, anti-religion organizations deny God exists. They deny our Christian/Judeo heritage, work overtime to destroy our traditional family values, and seek to destroy our freedoms, including, and especially our right to the free exercise of religion.

Our deeply rooted conservative belief in God and refusal to roll over for feminism, abortionism, homosexualism, socialism, etc., is the only thing stopping the left from completely overwhelming us with their godless, socialist perversions and completely wiping out our traditional Christian/Judeo God-centered free society.

If we cave-in to the left by nominating a supporter of abortion rights, gay rights, gun control, illegal aliens, etc., as our candidate for the presidency and de facto leader of the Republican party, then we will have destroyed our own pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-liberty movement and will have destroyed all of our prior pro-life, pro family, pro-liberty work. The Republican party will have made itself a joke. It'll be left standing for nothing. Worse, it'll be left standing with NARAL, NOW, the ACLU, and every other feminist/homosexualist Marxist/socialist communist group.

Surrender to the abortionists? Not on your life!

This is Free Republic. We ARE the dissent! We fight for life and liberty! We fight for our traditional American family values! We proudly and diligently defend our Christian/Judeo heritage, our country, our constitution, and our right to be free and to freely worship our God!

IMHO, those of you who cannot or will not understand these simple truths will never understand what FR is all about, what the pro-life movement is all about, what conservatism is all about, or even what freedom is all about.

I think we pretty much agree on the black and white issues. It’s just the priorities for this election where we differ. I agreed with you earlier, I don’t think Rudy will stand up over time. If I’m wrong, I will still trust the people Rudy will hire over the Clinton money machine, the Obama kids or the Edwards union goons. I think Conservatives could have a serious impact if they could take the House and/or Senate back. Otherwise Rats are going to be sending bills for Rudy or Hillary to sign and all we’ll be able to do is howl from minority seats and sniff for scandals. Like I said before, send forth a conservative presidential champion who can sweep everyone into office or pick one that you think you can influence the most. I’m not sure when exactly the best time is but I grow impatient waiting for the conservative secret plan to win the war.

Of course. Conservatism has always been about life. How we view life has always been the thing that distinguishes conservatism from it’s antithesis, socialism.

Do we view each person as unique, and do we think it necessary to preserve each human being’s right to exist in God’s image? Or do we view a person as imminently replaceable; as an unimportant cog in a larger machine. A cog that can be created or terminated as convenience dictates? That’s really the nut of what we’re talking about when we’re talking about conservatism versus socialism: whether individual human beings actually matter.

I feel the same way. And I am unworried about 6.3% of the members leaving.

And I am familiar with quite a few who have been here for several years or more that have been banned because their liberalism became glaring.

There are not 35 million abortions in the US annually, that’s the total number of abortions in the US since Roe.

I don’t see why you would want someone gone because they disagree with you on one issue. I don’t agree with anyone 100%, not even my wife.

“When I say I suspect we will become even more conservative than we already are, possibly via attrition if nothing else, what do you think I’m referring to? When FR starts pushing hard and I mean hard against abortion, gay marriage, homosexual education forced on our school children, pandering to illegal aliens, gun control, McCaine-Feingold type usurpation, global warming, etc, etc, even if supported or advanced by the GOP, then I fully suspect certain types of moderate/liberal Republican supporters are probably going to be a little uncomfortable here. We will be fighting for traditional American conservatism no matter who we have to fight against and I’m afraid that’s going to piss off some folks.”

I hadn’t caught that quote. Wow.

I wouldn't want them gone either. However, I am talking about bona fide liberals, who only agree with conservatives about the war on terror. The war on terror is an issue of manifest importance to every single one of us, but it is not a conservative issue even though many liberals attack Bush over it. Tom Daschle and Dick Gephardt both support the war on terror and unlike Rudy, neither of them have a 100% pro-abortion NARAL rating, we don't consider them conservatives.

When you get right down to it the ONLY "single issue" voters on here are the Rudy Rooters.

I don’t have any ill will against them personally, so I see no reason to post any of their names.

The problem is that people are attacking good conservative FReepers who disagree with them on just one issue: the nominee. Some don’t even disagree with them on that.

The Rudy bots give as good as they get.

Personally, I find it to be a sign of poor character when people who lose debates on threads to go whine all the time on other threads how people were mean to them.

The bulk of Giuliani's support here is coming from single-issue pro-abortion women.

I don't think it's that. I think it is moderates and liberals who do truly understand the threat that Islam poses, and don't want the democrats in power. Of course, in the GOP primary they are for the moderate/liberal who understands the threat that Islam poses.

“And I am familiar with quite a few who have been here for several years or more that have been banned because their liberalism became glaring.”

Speaking from personal experience: I’ve posted thousands of times and traded barbs with some of the best that FR has to offer. And as you can tell from my site name, there’s that little issue of my being a Democrat on a website where “Democrat” and “satan incarnate” are usually synonymous terms. Yet I’m still here.

I will tell you that from personal experience that I often find myself debating “good” conservatives when the socialist skirts start to show.
