FROM THE SENATE
Dismissal of U.S. Attorneys
Atty. Gen. Alberto Gonzales testifies before a Judiciary Cmte. hearing on the recent firing of eight U.S. Attorneys. Critics have questioned the motivation for the firing and the Atty. Gen.'s role in the process. The original hearing, scheduled for Tuesday, was post-
poned because of the Virginia Tech University shootings.

Arlen sees the blood on the floor and he is just wallowing in it.

Spector didn’t get the memo. This is supposed to be about the fired US Attorneys.

Orrin is trying to save something from this. Not sure he can do it though.

If Alberto gave a defense of his actions and statements even half as passionate as Hatch is doing right now, he might actually survive this.

Oh, FGS, Cardin says there is growing voter intimidation to keep people from voting...as evidenced by long lines at the polls.

And of course the AG panders to him by saying what a good point it is that he brings up.

Alberto is not political. He really thinks he should just be the AG, and do things that are RIGHT, and not pay attention to politics.

I like the sentiment, but it isn’t working. If he was a democrat though, the media would point out how partisan and mean the republicans were, and how above it all the AG was, and it would work just fine.

I think you misunderstood me. I was saying, or trying to, that not all GWB’s associate, appointees, etc are inept.

“Specter is a jerk.”

And our president stumped for Specter’s re-election, while doing nothing for the conservative candidate in that state. Wonderful.

Yep. Some republicans went him hoping to defend him, and hoping he would demonstrate aptitude for the job he has been appointed to.

But can anybody who is watching this really say that this is the guy we want as AG?

“This is not a jibe at anything other than his speaking and management skills. He just is coming across as incompetent. Does anybody think Ted Olsen would be this bad even without the month of prep time that Gonzo has had? He is embarassing himself and the president, and needs to resign. He is about to take another whacking now.”

I agree. He is like Miers or Brown. A crony appointment who isn’t qualified for the job. His performance today has been astoundingly bad and his handling of all this was dreadful. He should have just come out and said that he fired them. Why lie about it and pretend you knew nothing? Get some balls ‘Berto.

“I hope he doesn’t apologize,” said Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah, who spoke with Gonzales a week ago. “He is in a really miserable position where people are focused and saying nasty things. He thinks that he acted appropriately. I told him he ought to be less gracious in his responses.”

He should have listened to this guy.
