Next president WILL appoint a justice. There will probably be a democrat majority in congress.

If we get a Republican nominee who is a STRONG one, with widespread Repub. and Independent support, it's very possible he can carry the Republicans back into Congress with him. Especially since the margins of victory were SO close for the Dems last time.

What the demmies seem to not understand is that the last election’s results were NOT because people were voting FOR them—people were voting AGAINST the do-nothing Republicans!

Hopefully, conservatives have learned from their mistakes (and boy, was it a whopper!!!), and Fred et al will win in a landslide in 2008! :-)

If the next president is ANY Dem, or any moderate, all of the libs on the USSC now will consider retiring so as to raise the chances their “legacy” will be preserved. At least two will go within the first year... and possibly all four would be replaced within the four year term... Souter is the only real question mark, I think.
