Koreans (and Asians in general) have crashed through the glass ceiling, though they are still grossly underrepresented among serial killers and civilian mass murderers in general.

Yes, the transition of these activities from the military to the private sector has lagged behind the west...though various Asian countries' military achievements in this area are easily world-class.

Really!! You should do a little research on the ROK brigade and division posted to Nam in 68 and I think anyone of those soldiers could make you a “girly man”. They are one tough people.

The South Korean marines are legendary, too.

A dimwitted response by some Koreans. We should ask these same people what they think of Americans maybe specifically what they think of white men (since racist seems to be a code word for white men).

It might be worthwhile to show your mom the comments on this thread:

Well, let me tell them something. If the race of the shooter is omitted from a news story these days, everyone assumes the perp is Caucasian. Think about it.

In the U.S. media, if the race is ommitted, the perp is nearly always black. You have it backwards.

“Come to think of it, I don’t know why South Korea really had to apologize - the whole country can’t be blamed for this, the shooter wasn’t a spokesman for South Korea by any means.”

It has to do with the culture of shame, Cho shamed S. Korea as a whole, in their eyes.

In any rate: It was a nice gesture. I don’t remember Saudi Arabia apologizing.

Who in the world is blaming the Koreans?!? The only people I’ve seen bring this up is the South Koreans themselves.

This is ridiculous. I don’t know anybody who blames the killer for being of Korean descent. They blame him for being cruel, bloodthirsty and merciless. I definitely haven’t heard anyone try to lump all Koreans together as murderers.

Sorry guys. We already have enough victim classes. You’ll have to forget about it and get on with your lives as Americans...

Besides, most round-eyes (like myself) can’t really tell a Korean from a Japanese from a Chinese from a Thai, without some other distguishing characteristic (like their script). You’re mostly all “Oriental-looking” to us.

Simple. If you call a Japanese a Korean, you’re apt to get slugged...

Which I why I say “sir,” “ma’am” or address ‘em by name.

Names are usually sufficient to separate ‘em out. Thai names don’t look anything like Japanese, Chinese or Korean. And there is enough difference between Japanese, Chinese and Korean names that there is a pretty good chance of getting it right - if you’ve seen them before.

I suppose ‘sir’ is better than ‘Hey you! Jap!’

I suspect they’re projecting. If a white foreigner (especially an American) living in South Korea went on a rampage like this I can imagine Koreans in the street in front of the embassay of that country, protesting.

I think Koreans living in America have nothing to fear. There are very few people who are going to take something out on them because some kook went on a rampage.

This isn’t a normal thing for Koreans, or Korean-Americans in any case.

Jihadists... well, there’s a whole ‘nutter group....

I don’t see this as happening. It is a VERY common misperception of foreign nationtions and the MSM.

Other nations do not have the melting pot of the USA and think we have daily race or ethnic riots in the street.

If all you knew of the US was from Hollywood, you would think that people are being murdered here every day.

oh wait...

I recall an incident a few years back, where a US military vehicle accidentally hit and killed a Korean girl - there were riots in the streets.

A US dogface was even kidnapped, beaten and brought to a soccer stadium where he was forced to apologize before the entire crowd.

I realize this incident was fueled by tensions caused by our guys being stationed over there, but it gives you some idea of the mindset of many.

I agree with the facts of your statement but am addressing the assumptions of readers. Where I live, the newsies still do mention the race of a suspect on the loose if he/she is black but it's obvious it kills them to do it (Seattle area). They try not to mention it if the person is in custody. They LOVE mentioning race if someone accuses a Caucasian police officer of a hate / racially motivated crime -- regardless of how ridiculous the charges are, even on first looks. Maybe my regional info base distorts my perceptions of what goes on nationally.
