April 17, 2007 Cho Seung-Hui, the 23-year-old student who killed 32 people and then himself yesterday, left a long and "disturbing" note in his dorm room at Virginia Tech, say law enforcement sources.
Sources have now described the note, which runs several pages, as beginning in the present tense and then shifting to the past tense. It contains rhetoric explaining Cho's actions and says, "You caused me to do this," the sources told ABC News.
Sources say Cho killed two people in a dorm room, returned to his own dorm room where he re-armed and left the note, then went to a classroom building on the other side of campus. There, he killed 30 more people in four classrooms before shooting himself in the head.
Cho, born in South Korea, was a legal resident alien of the United States. He was a senior at Virginia Tech, majoring in English.
Sources tell ABC News Cho bought his first gun, a Glock 9 millimeter handgun, on March 13; they say he bought his second weapon, a .22 caliber pistol, within the last week. The serial numbers on both guns had been filed off, they said.
Authorities found the receipt for the 9 millimeter handgun in his backpack. They say it also contained two knives and additional ammunition for the two guns.
Legal permanent resident aliens may purchase firearms in the state of Virginia. A resident alien must, however, provide additional identification to prove he or she is a resident of the state.
Sections of chain similar to those used to lock the main doors at Norris Hall, the site of the second shooting that left 31 dead, were also found inside a Virginia Tech dormitory, sources confirmed to ABC News.
Thanks,
I’ve been reading (or attempting to read) that.
“The man” was keeping him down, I see. here he had two parents who worked their butt’s off so he and his sister could attend some of the best school’s around.
I guess I’m off the Christmas card list, too. Damn.
They are going to stick w/the jilted lover Columbine II story because it is the most PC. To think otherwise would destroy thier belief that guns were the cause.
It looks more like her death was a diversion for the bigger killing.
Pray for W and Our Troops
And this year I was sending out Shortbreads!
Shortbread solstice cookies? Oh, don’t make me beg...
Real butter, real sugar and flour from scratch cookies. Make them every year by hand, myself.
However, after news began to emerge regarding the shooting, some details came to light. For example, the shooter was described as an Asian male. Many people then began to wonder -- "Well, what type of Asian? Could this mean Middle Eastern? Is this the media's way of hiding this fact?" Though a bit of a stretch, even then, I still felt it possible that Asian = Middle Eastern, though I personally felt that to be a bit unlikely. But possible, yes.
Now, hours later, we learn the name, we see his picture, we realize more details of his life. The Islam factor now seems extremely unlikely ... though actual proof may come about later. Suddenly, a reference on his arm to "Ismail Ax" (sp?) means that he was making an Islamic reference. Taking this one reference and making it the crux of the argument that religion was a motivating factor rather than seeing the "in-your-face" evidence that there was undoubtedly something else wrong with the guy -- as can be seen in the play he wrote -- is just plain ludicrous.
Personally, I don't know what the reference means. Moby Dick, Islam, World of Warcraft, etc. Who knows. But to keep pushing for this to somehow be related to Islam seems a stretch.
And nobody is saying that Islam's connection with terrorism isn't a problem we face today. I'm simply saying that this incident is likely not connected. That's it.
Thank you for posting those references. This is indeed a bizarre case and getting more bizarre with each day, so far.
I don't think they used explosives either. That would take some material htey don't have and to be properly applied. The door was chained though, was a fire door of substantial strength and the bar openers are substantial. Busting that door open would have been very loud. They may have had to use a vehicle. I just used, blown open in a generic sence. Certainly a flash bang could not blow open the door, unless they could "tamp" it with something. That something would probably look like a vehicle, so why not just drive though.
Since you saw the video and the rush, and didn't note anything about the breech, maybe a bunch of the did a coordinated hit on the door. The door breaking and lever ripping out would have been quite loud. ANother concern is that the mic only has a certain amplitude limit, so even though a gunshot in the hallway is painfully loud, it would be recorded that way. It would just be the recording of a max amplitude response at the gunshot frequency, which would be higher than that of the door popping. The door popping could also be recorded at the max amplitude the device is capable of.
So, who the hell is this “you?”
ALIAS MIX
SALAMI XI
ALAS I MIX
MAIL AXIS
AXIS MAIL
I ISLAM AX
SAIL MAXI
I suggested that the word ISLAM should be included and got:
ISLAM A XI
ISLAM AX I
I then narrowed it down to the obvious "I AM .......", but I still don't get anything that makes sense.
I AM LA SIX
I AM LA XIS
I AM LAS XI
I AM LAX IS
Salami Eleven?!! Its all starting to make sense now.
The young man had been noticed to be disturbed and had been referred to counseling. Dr. Ismail Ak is an expert and author in the particular field most directly related to the guy's disorder.
So it's possible that the writing on the guy's arm said, ISMAIL AK, and the K was written in a way that people *thought* it said, ISMAIL AX. That seems more likely to me than a connection to Moby Dick or to Islamic terrorism.

I’ve been on the Rudy threads. I don’t hang around very long because I’m afraid I’d catch myself indulging in my pet peeve...calling people names because of their opinions (Geraldo Rivera is exempt).
I love to read FReeper opinions even if I don’t agree and some of them make me downright furious. Sometimes I comment, but mostly I don’t because the bottom line is, it’s just somebody’s opinion. I have to remind myself of that a lot.
Well, the first one was bought in March and the second would have been bought in April. That's one per month.
Or is the law one gun in any 30 day period? If that's the case then the description "one-gun per month" is misleading.
I thought so too. < /sarcasm>
The fact that the killer had a green card and not a student visa was mentioned in that thread too - well in advance of the media reporting that fact. The gunshop guy's posts appear to be legit, particularly in light of that website having gone dark.
Kinda makes one wonder what might've happened if said gun dealer had frequented FreeRepublic and posted that information here first.
Good points all.
A bright young man might be looking into the latest work in a disorder he may have been diagnosed with ...
