Heads Must Roll At Virginia Tech ...(assumed domestic violence ???)
Peace and Freedom ^ | April 17, 2007 | John E. Carey

The entire nation will now collectively mourn one of the great tragedies one can endure: the death of so many of our children.

But a detailed analysis of the facts will also be ongoing. There are many questions from all observers.

It just seems to me, when law enforcement finds two dead bodies on a sleepy university campus in the 7 A.M. hour: they immediately should slam the “Red Alert” button. Yesterday there were some lame remarks about getting out an email (two hours late) and that there wasn’t time to get the word to both lock down the campus and stop the influx of tens of thousands of commuters.

They don’t have radio and TV in Blacksburg, Virginia? If at 7 A.M. a tornado was announced heading for that campus, what would have happen? How about a snowstorm? We had high winds in Washington D.C. this week and the schools were closed three hours early. It was on every radio and TV station in seconds. With that huge force of law enforcement, a good police commander could have closed every road into that campus in no time.

They got radios, cars and flashing lights, don’t they?

Did anyone notice that a bunch of those law enforcement offers were, ahem, chubby?

Law enforcement at Virginia Tech didn’t save one life. They didn’t waste one bullet doing it either. Somebody should be ashamed: law enforcement didn’t fire a shot. The only shooter on that campus got tired after all the mayhem he made.

If my kids name was killed in the classroom after 9 A.M. I am one angry parent.

When is the last time law enforcement found two dead students, murdered students, on that campus during the 7 A.M. hour?

My son is a police officer they take orders also. they cannot do anything without someone at the top giving the order. In a situation like this somebody makes the decision to go in or to hold back. Somebody takes command. Where we failed is prevention. Our enforcement can only do the best they can

"Did anyone notice that a bunch of those law enforcement offers were, ahem, chubby?"

That's needless pecking, IMO. It's one of the (seriously) real dangers from having to sit in a car and/or at a desk for so many hours. Lack of sleep (for some), long periods of boredom punctuated with episodes of stress also contribute. Most governments--especially small governments--don't want to pay for exercise programs or try to force those on all employees.

So...when would you have hit the “Red Alert” panic button?

The mention of the DV assumption and lack of follow-through did stand out, though.

By "lack of follow-through" do you mean finding and detaining the ex-boyfriend of the female victim at an off-campus site? Is that what you mean?

After the first crime he had time to plot and return and reload. Lock down might have saved some lives.it is now necessary for parents to use the words what if. When you take your child to look at a college you have to use two more words simple ones ,what if.

After yesterday we should demand them.

Better yet, why not have security cameras mounted to the head of each individual so that we can know what everyone is doing at every single moment. Plus maybe we can attach some EEG thingies to our heads to monitor brain activity and look for patterns of brain activity which signal violence or law-breaking. And then we'd all be safe.

If drills like that could be done for nuclear attacks simulated in the 50s why no drills today. After yesterday we should demand them.In the fifties we used to them once a month. We had no war of course , but we aired on the side of caution.

Panic not really needed.
‘Red Alert’...... 5 minutes after finding the dead and wounded at 7AM.

Oh come on! you do not want security cameras on the doors and people to watch the cameras. If you don’t , don’t enter a store , or a shop anywhere cause you are on camera. The fact is if the cameras were at the doors the people watching them would have said what is this guy up to and checked it out. If they save one life and keep tears out of the eyes of those kids.I say man the cameras we are doing it already. In the hall of a college or at the doorway is not taking away your privacy, all they would do is protect you. Maybe you want to see more kids devastated today I don’t.

you have to use two more words simple ones ,what if.

Two words that guarantee all noble endeavors are brought to a halt.

How about we start with the design of the road system and go from there.

Good. Lets do that.

What is the road design?

What do you do with it or about it?

Was it noble what happened yesterday I don’t think so , if you are prepared for something like this what is wrong with that? Would you rather have press announcements that they caught this guy though security cameras then have the press realizes they are are putting out today. this whole thing is breaking my heart. if another can be prevented and another parents child is kept safe what is wrong with that?Don’t go in a store if you do, smile you are on camera.

Where do they think this “red alert button” is? Is it like the “Easy” button from Staples?

Oh, for there to be a button you could push whenever something bad could possibly happen, that would magically prevent it.

Where were the security camera on campus? People pay a lot of money to go to these schools and they expect enforcement to be aware of what might happen also. If it saves one life to error on caution then let America make mistakes that way. I still believe in better to be safe then sorry. All I know is there are a lot of people hurting today. I hope we have learned where we went wrong.

I like the idea of a security camera in a girl’s dorm.

Great.

It would make it even more secure to put it on the ‘net. That would give us real 24/7 watchdogs.

Thanks Betsy,

Most here today have ripped me,
almost hurts to sit.

Mike

I write SOP(operating plans)and EOP (emergency occupancy plans) for employees, tenants and occupants of Federal Buildings. Fire Drills and Shelter in place drills are twice yearly tested and practiced. Those are minimal requirements.
It sadly appears VA Tech had no plans, no procedures and ‘winged it’.
Resulting in an horrendous loss of young life.

I think those should also be issued to the talking heads who were saying the same thing all over cable news yesterday. It is amazing how little information those Bozos needed to determine that the school shooting was all the VT Administration’s fault. I guess they just could not resist the instinct to “blame the administration.” Must be Katrina conditioning. I’m sure they will be blaming the Bush Administration as well before the day is out.
