You misinterpreted it.

Do you think this incident is a reason to pass stricter gun control legislation?

No. Violent shootings are isolated incidents and it's irresponsible to link them to gun control. 32,991

Yes. This shows the violence that can occur when someone has access to handguns.13,739

I'm not sure. I need more information.1,131

No gun control is way ahead.

What, they aren’t in over their heads yet? I had forgotten about those idiots until you reminded me. I really can’t stand those people.

I think all of this does come down to mental illness in a sense. Of course, a person could be a complete sociopath and simply not care. It makes no sense to me. People can “snap” quickly or “snap” and simply become somebody else. I know the Columbine killers were suspected of something months in advance. That’s several months that they were clearly out of their minds, yet still these teenagers were planning mass murder. It’s possible that these people were never right to begin with - I’m certainly a believer that some people are simply defective.

OH, I’m so glad to hear you say that! I liked his voice, his mannerisms, and he said he had spent his whole career at Va Tech. So am glad to hear you say he is a great leader for Va. Tech. I hope they don’t make him the scapegoat too. I feel sorry for the police guy also - he was clearly affected - like he wanted to throw up. No matter what, I know he is hurting tonight because so many did die and because he saw the rooms with all the bodies and he is surely questioning his own department’s and his own personal decisions today. And he said he had spoken to parents of victims and I know that is terribly hard. I would guess he might retire after all this if he can.

There have been reports from the students inside the building that the gunman didn’t say a word except to line up against a wall; he just went around methodically shooting people with no emotion on his face.

I can promise you, I will not die lined up against the wall and being methodically executed. I might die being shot by a guy who's eyes I am trying to tear out, but not lined against a wall.

I can also promise you that I will not be shot to death in a restaraunt walk-in freezer. I might be shot to death at the front door of a restaraunt trying to get out, but not in the walk-in freezer.

I can also assure you that I will not die after having been forced into a car at gunpoint. I might die in a parking lot after having been shot in the back....but not having been forced into a car at gunpoint and taken away.

During the last news conference, the Chief of the campus police said they spoke to the man who knew the deceased woman and was supposedly the “jilted lover”. He was not the person who killed all the people in Norris Hall. So unless there is more than one jilted lover, I don’t know what the motivation of the man who did all the shooting was.

Geraldo about to show the facebook webpage. So if this ISN’T the shooter, what’s the point — to smear gun-owners?

Advocates of gun control are actually way behind on that poll.

While that is a plausible scenario, and one which does not necessarily implicate others on a broader scale, you can bet the jihadis are watching.

The only part which does not fit is the fact that the perp was sanitized--no ID, no cell phone, etc.

Recall one drove an SUV into the 'pit' in North Carolina, and the press played it down as an isolated event. There have been quite a few 'isolated events'--none of which have been given jihadic attribution though they involved Muslim perpetrators.

We are still waiting for sufficient data.

I actually saw that much earlier today and I was surprised that common sense prevailed. I don’t think it was linked from here - I actually got to it through Google News.

Sadly enough, though, this poll is clearly loaded.

Sorry to say, but things like this will toughen kids up, just like seeing that Nick Berg kid get his head sawed off. This is our world, and we need Reaganesque social and governmental values in order to survive in it. We'll arrive at those values, one way or another.

"Our enemies may be irrational, even outright insane, driven by nationalism, religion, ethnicity or ideology. They do not fear the United States for its diplomatic skills or the number of automobiles and software programs it produces. They respect only the firepower of our tanks, planes and helicopter gunships."

-- Ronald Reagan

GOVERNOR KAINE DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY TO COORDINATE RESPONSE TO SHOOTINGS AT VIRGINIA TECH
RICHMOND, Va. — Governor Timothy M. Kaine today declared a state of emergency in the Commonwealth of Virginia, directing state agencies to take all necessary actions to aid in the response and recovery following today’s shootings at Virginia Tech.

A declaration of emergency allows the Governor to immediately deploy state personnel, equipment, and other resources, and to coordinate state and local response in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy.

“State agencies, including State Police and the Virginia Departments of Health and Emergency Management, are doing everything possible to be of assistance to those who were injured, and those who have lost loved ones in this tragedy,” Governor Kaine said.

The Virginia State Police are on-scene in Blacksburg investigating the shootings in cooperation with local law enforcement. The Department of Health has sent the Chief Medical Examiner and additional personnel to the area to assist with the fatalities. The Virginia Department of Emergency Management has sent staff to the scene to advise and assist local emergency managers and first responders. The Virginia Emergency Operations Center is coordinating state level assistance. In addition, the state will help coordinate crisis counseling assistance for those in need.

Additional information about the recovery at Virginia Tech will be available online at www.vt.edu.

Separately, Governor Kaine has ordered the lowering of the Virginia state flag in honor of those who were killed or injured in today’s shootings

I don’t think he said he was the jilted lover. Here is a quote from ABC:

Campus police have identified a person of interest who is not currently in police custody. Police say the person of interest is a male who knew the female who was killed in the original double homicide at the West Ambler Johnston Hall dormitory. Flinchum also said he is not a student and that he knew the female who was killed in the original double homicide.

British imbeciles botching a story they didn’t understand...

They started cuffing anyone that remotely looked like the suspect (asian guys)...has nothing to do with the shooting at all.
