Uhm, most of the people keeping you and I safe everynight (the military) are 18-25 year olds. Average age in WWII was around 18-19 I believe. Acting as if a 22 year old is a child is ridiculous and worse the low expectation signals 22 year olds that it is ok to act like one.

Not a terribly good comparison but I’ve been on bases here and there, and it’s amazing that they give a 22 yr old an armored vehicle with an M60 and an M2, with an M16 with M203 attached, and a sidearm. I’m frequently surrounded by 18 to 22 yr olds with enough firepower to level a city block.

As for concealed carry in VA, isn’t the law 21 and over, just like outside the campus? That would be grad students and some seniors, but not freshmen.

I thought that the police spokesperson WAS in shock. His eyes kept blinking - and he really did seem in total shock. Then he improved. He never raised his voice. Never smiled. Did a good job of answering questions, I thought. The President also impressed me as being a very calming influence in the situation - but don't know anything about him.

Have 2 coworkers who had daughters at VA Tech but both are safe...and both parents very relieved....but ZERO condemnation of Va Tech officials in today's events. (was talking to them on IM today while it was happening - and later).

You have got to be kidding me?! Are you saying that there would be more people killed if there was one law-abiding, willing, responsible 21 year old student with a CCW that could have stopped this thing?

You are the one with limited intelligence. A gun in the hands of a law abiding citizen, practicing his/her God-given right to self defense could have possible stopped this attack, or at least mitigated the carnage.

I agree with you... what has happened to fight back? My grandmother was 70+ when this guy tried to snatch her purse. She sucker punched him and laid him out cold, he was still out cold when the police arrived!

I’m not even saying to be armed... just fight back. If a few of those students had thrown a desk or two or rushed him, maybe the results would have been a little different. I know I sit here safe and sound in my own home, but I’d like to think I’d be a bit more of a fighter.

Complete strawman. No one is seriously suggesting arming "every student" or putting "a gun in every backpack." The legal right to concealed carry should merely be extended to campus. Many people won't carry regardless, and no one is suggested forcing everyone to carry. Despite many memes to the contrary, there's really no record of massive friendly crossfire incidents even in areas with high concealed carry rates.

And it's worth noting VA Tech has ACTIVELY worked against concealed carry on their campus. And hey, you HAD your way on VA Tech's campus. Right as ready, no concealed carry and a basically complete gun ban, and you get 32 murdered.

Can you imagine thousands weapons being fired in panic?

I walked on campus while my son was at Scouts tonight. It was so empty. It was like a reverent silence. God informed me during the walk that evil exists in this world but not in the next. I’m not even sure I know what that means.

We had a beautiful sunset tonight. One of the best I have seen. There is light that permeates the darkness. Maybe we got a glimpse of Heaven to remind us of our true home.

One of my Emmaus buddies called. We held the Walk this past weekend(I was a table leader) and some of us work on campus. Everyone is fine. It was good to hear from him after spending the weekend with him. I think we all wanted to just run back to the camp and stay.
