NEW YORK - Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer, has reclaimed its position as the largest corporation in the U.S. among the Fortune 500, pushing Exxon Mobil down to number two.
With more than $351 billion dollars in revenue, the magazine ranks Wal-Mart slightly ahead of the energy giant. Wal-Mart is on top for the fifth time in six years.
Oil companies have three of the top five spots.
Fortune says Google is among the biggest movers. The online search leader has moved up more than 100 spots to 241.
We’re getting our very first SuperTarget and SuperWal-Mart, both of which will be opening at about the same time later this summer.
I’ll report back. The SuperTarget is on the other side of the hill from our Garden Center, so that’ll be the first one I scout out. ;)
You know I love, love, love my local Wal-Mart. It’s been a boon to the small town (about 10K people) and it’s always clean and well organized.
I’ll only have ONE day a week off between now and July 1st, so if I can stock up on the basics in one trip, you know I will. I hate to shop, too.
You and I have the identical attitude regarding shopping - except for garden centers and thrift stores!!!!
Good Lord willin’ and the crick don’t rise (again) I hope to be doing a major stock up on Friday, I’m like old Mother Hubbard right now, the cupboards are bare.......but of course I haven’t done a truly major stockup since November. The plan is drop the girls at school and head to WalMart, and then hit Food Lion on the way home.
You know what a spastic stocker-upper I can be. It's one of the things I've battled since being raised by Depression-Era Grandparents.
I have to constantly remind myself that "stuff" on a shelf is really "money" sitting there and it should be working FOR me, as in earning interest & dividends. I mean, I'll always keep our 'Emergency Supplies' for Tornadoes and Blizzards stocked, but I can get really carried away if I let myself when it comes to stockpiling food. And I have yet to miss a meal in my 46 trips around the sun. ;)
I'm actually worse if I'm in an Aldi food store (which I know you don't have) versus Wal-Mart. I'd rather have staples in the house along with a goodly supply of Scott brand TP and my Hazelnut CoffeeMate Creamer...the two minor indulgences in my 'Frugalista' life, LOL!
Actually, the no-stock up since November has wreaked major havoc on the budget. I should have done one the end of January or beginning of February. I’m out of basic staples like flour, dried beans, canned goods, you know - the pantry supper supplies .....
One of the major things I need to restock, and WM is a great place to do it, is what I refer to as my grazing shelf.........and assortment of olives, antipasto platter type stuff, anchovies, and there has to be lox and capers in the mix, etc. We used to just put all that kind of stuff on platters with assorted crackers and just graze all afternoon....instead of dinner! It’s been ages since we’ve done that I’ve got a craving for it.....but it won’t be this weekend. Friday is the shopping expedition, Saturday we’ve got little league, hopefully some outside work, and I’m tending bar staurday night, and Sunday is the Spring bazaar and pancake supper at church ........so I guess my craving will wait another week!
My company just moved up to number 18. I hope that means job security.
You’re making me drool! I’m glad Spring is here and Summer is right around the corner. I love to “graze,” too.
Cheese, sausage, a sliced apple and a glass of wine = A Heavenly Feast. :)
And fresh Guacamole and chips works, too!
We’re too much alike!!!!
I wish spring was here....we’re going through a typical DelMarVa season cycle, we basically had spring in December and January and now it’s winter and in about 2 weeks we’ll probably be in full blown summer.
Bwtween last weekend’s snow and cold, and the wind and rain we’ve had since Saturday I am sure I will have no spring pea crop. I am very unhappy about that. 120 row feet of peas would have put a nice amount in my freezer and a goodly amount on the stand, and I’ve lost the opportunity to put in a second planting of them now....I’ll have to wait until September. I’m also now at least 2 weeks behind on planting beans and corn.
Unfortunately, part of my stock up at WM is going to consist of frozen veggies.
