Since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, our nation has fought a global war against violent extremists who use terrorism as their weapon of choice, and who seek to destroy our free way of life. Our enemies seek weapons of mass destruction and, if they are successful, will likely attempt to use them in their conflict with free people everywhere. Currently, the struggle is centered in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we will need to be prepared and arranged to successfully defend our nation and its interests around the globe for years to come. DOD
Our enemies include all the Muslims who dream of knocking Western Civilization off its perch atop humanityâs dung heap. Islam is fractured into any number of sects, tribes and ethnic groups, but the dream of destroying us cuts across all the fault lines. Islamic terrorists are merely the tip of a very large spear.
J. Peter Mulhern, the American Thinker, September 18
The determination behind that fight is real, the hatred is real, and the excuses for doing this are very real in the minds of those who have decided to walk that path. We can respond in two ways: Try to ignore or negotiate with people who do not want to negotiate in good faith, because what they want is our destruction, or to stand up against the darkness of those who see all of us, our way of life, our culture and our aspirations as something worth eliminating.
Either: "And God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
Or: "With vigilance, determination, courage, we will defeat the enemies of freedom, and we will leave behind a more peaceful world for our children and our grandchildren." GW Bush.
Here's where I will post news and info about the Long War. Let me know if you're interested.

Driving around today, I heard this on NPR so I don’t have a link, but the reporter said about the raid by the good guys in Sadr city that sent 26 of the bad guys to their just reward that al-Maliki was upset about the Americans not informing the government in advance and that was not acceptable.
I had a conversation with Mr. al-Maliki right there in the car and the air turned blue.
But we won the war though - kind of makes it moot point.

Not a lot going on that doesn't involve the Katsav sex scandal but I did find this piece interesting.
. IRAN: INTERNATIONAL ISLAMIC COURT NEEDED, TOP OFFICIALS SAYS
Tehran, 29 June (AKI) - Iran's chief prosecutor Ghorbanali Dari Najafabadi has championed the creation of an international Islamic court to safeguard the rights of Muslim nations which are "being routinely denied by international courts dominated by the West". Najafabadi made the appeal during a speech in Mashad, capital of Iran's western Khorasan region. He said bodies such as the International Court of Justice based in The Hague, Netherlands, "served Western and American interests" and were incapable of "meting out fair justice".
An Islamic international tribunal should not just deal with disputes between nations but also try "criminals and renegades of the calibre of Saddam Hussein", Najafabadi said.

Good morning, Workerbee...
checking in — waiting for coffee maker to finish doing it’s thing....
How ya feeling this morning??
The British Prime Minister's top anti-terrorism adviser says the foiled car-bomb plot in London shows Al Qaeda has imported the tactics of Iraqi and Indonesian militants to Britain.
"Make no mistake, this weekend's bomb attacks signal a major escalation in the war being waged on us by Islamic terrorists," John Stevens, the former commissioner of the London police, wrote in an article for the News of the World newspaper.
"Initially it was believed the main problem police faced was insulated groups of home-grown extremists, but now it is clear a loose but deadly network of interlinked operational cells has developed."
"The terror of July 7 (2005) was awful enough, but now Al Qaeda has imported the tactics of Baghdad and Bali to our streets," he said.
"It will get worse before it gets better."
I was surprised by the source for this one but at least it has been admitted to.
I feel ok thank you - Flue like, achy - odd, I expected this yesterday. Oh well, everyday seems to be different with this mess :)
And how is everything in the "Ike Cave" this morning?
Not much "new" news to be had this morning - but looking.
Speaking of odd sources...
4 Held in Scottish Attack as British See Broader Plot “Allah, Allah!”

LONDON, Sunday, July 1 British officials raised the countrys terrorism threat alert to its highest level on Saturday after two men slammed an S.U.V. into entrance doors at Glasgow Airport and turned the vehicle into a potentially lethal fireball.
Less than 38 hours earlier the police uncovered two cars in London rigged to explode with gasoline, gas canisters and nails.
Early Sunday, after a day of fast-moving developments, the London police announced that two people had been arrested in Cheshire, in northwest England, in connection with the events in London and Scotland.
The arrests were in addition to those of the two occupants of the blazing car at Glasgow Airport. A witness to the attack said on BBC television that one of the cars occupants had been ablaze from head to foot, and as he struggled with the police, was throwing punches and shouting Allah, Allah.

Wonder how the last sentence of the snippet got past the PC Editor at the Slimes......
I don't know Ike but I'm glad it IS getting through once in a while.
” Not much “new” news to be had this morning - but looking. “
Yep — Lots of rehash and (mostly ill-informed) commentary, but nothing much of news value as far as I can see.....
Sorry to hear about the delayed-reaction shot effects... Maybe they’ll fade sooner, and you’ll be back to what passes for ‘normal’.....
Coffee maker’s done makin’, and all’s well in the Ike Cave.... ;~)
Oh — caught up on the thread about the “US diplomat missing in Cyprus” —
Seems that the guy is a Lt. Colonel military attache’......
Hope it turns out to not be a Jihadi (Iranian?) grab — there’s lots of classified info in this guy’s brain.....
Just singed the "recall Mel Martinez Petition" heh heh heh
Probably won't amount to much but I feel better :)
While it was Bellsouth fast access DSL, it was up all the time and now that att bought it has been down twice in the last 30 days - once for over 24 hours.
I'm on dial up now.
” I’m on dial up now. “
Welcome to my world..... ;~(
” As a side note, ATT Fast Access DSL Network is down - Nation wide! “
I’ve been hearing a rumor about ATT’s new (slow, but better than dial-up) $10 (or such) DSL service, and was toying with the thought of looking in to it...
Think I’ll hold off for now..... ;~)
I'm considering disconnecting my Cingular(ATT) phone, canceling my Bellsouth (ATT), DSL/land phone and switching to Verizon phone/wireless internet. /rant
End second rant
” Verizon phone/wireless internet. /rant “
If I had the money (in my dreams...) I’d go with the Comcast digital-cable/internet/phone package....
The people I know that have it sing its praises, especially about reliability.....
Slow news morning, indeed....
80 minutes since the last new post on the FR main board....
