Thread 4

Since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, our nation has fought a global war against violent extremists who use terrorism as their weapon of choice, and who seek to destroy our free way of life. Our enemies seek weapons of mass destruction and, if they are successful, will likely attempt to use them in their conflict with free people everywhere. Currently, the struggle is centered in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we will need to be prepared and arranged to successfully defend our nation and its interests around the globe for years to come. DOD

Our enemies include all the Muslims who dream of knocking Western Civilization off its perch atop humanity’s dung heap. Islam is fractured into any number of sects, tribes and ethnic groups, but the dream of destroying us cuts across all the fault lines. Islamic terrorists are merely the tip of a very large spear.

J. Peter Mulhern, the American Thinker, September 18

The determination behind that fight is real, the hatred is real, and the excuses for doing this are very real in the minds of those who have decided to walk that path. We can respond in two ways: Try to ignore or negotiate with people who do not want to negotiate in good faith, because what they want is our destruction, or to stand up against the darkness of those who see all of us, our way of life, our culture and our aspirations as something worth eliminating.

Either: "And God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Or: "With vigilance, determination, courage, we will defeat the enemies of freedom, and we will leave behind a more peaceful world for our children and our grandchildren." GW Bush.

Here's where I will post news and info about the Long War. Let me know if you're interested.

Morning, Knitting.

Here is a bit of a Flopping Aces piece on the Iranian economy which is interesting.

“The current insanity is not accidental. Hitler Jr. is tanking the economy on purpose. The WSJ article above goes into great detail on how it’s all to combat the “Jewish Crusader” conspiracy to keep Muslim nations down. That strategy has ruined their economy. But no matter, his hope is to make Iran look like North Korea:

President Ahmadinejad, however, is determined to impose what looks like a North Korean model on the Iranian economy. He has already dissolved the Syndicate of Iranian Employers (SKI) as a capitalist cabal, and plans to replace it with a government-appointed body. He is also pushing a new Labor Code through the Islamic Majlis (parliament) to replace the existing one written with the help of the International Labor Organization in the 1960s and amended in 1991.

The proposed text abolishes most of the rights won by workers throughout the world as a result of decades of social struggle and political reform. President Ahmadinejad believes that Western-style trade unions and employers’ associations have no place in a proper Islamic society where the state, representing the will of Allah, can keep the “community of the faithful” free of class struggle, a typical affliction of “Infidel” societies.

Mr. Ahmadinejad’s next coup will likely be a major privatization scheme affecting more than 40 public corporations across the country. He has promised to help the employees buy up to 10% of the shares. The rest will go to rich mullahs and Revolutionary Guard officers and their business associates, using low interest loans from state-owned banks. By the time the scheme is ready, however, the Islamic Republic may be facing too deep an economic crisis for anyone—even greedy mullahs and corrupt Revolutionary Guardsmen—to want to invest even a
borrowed rial there.
So, in a nutshell Iran’s ambition is to become the next North Korea in almost every way possible, including nuclear. And what are we doing about it? During the Clinton years laws were passed in an attempt to freeze any investments in Iran. These laws stated that sanctions would be imposed on foreign companies that invest more then 20 million into Iran’s oil sector.

Sen. Dodd recently said during a Senate Banking Committee hearing that “not one foreign energy concern has been sanctioned,” but in other areas we’ve had great success: (h/t Kenneth Timmerman)”

” 11:02 12 injured in market bomb blast in Turkish port city of Izmir (Reuters) “

Admittedly, I was out-of-touch at (ugh) work all day yesterday, but this is the first I’d heard of this...

Evidently, the Media has stopped reporting on these incidents....

You can only build up so much pressure before things blow up...I wonder how much pressure Iran can take.

It’s amazing how much pressure NK can.

” Regionalism isn’t quite what it used to be. “

I think I was probably born a southerner, in a northern family — I have no love of, nor nostalgia for, snow, cold, ice, and all the trappin’s of winter....

In NM, I lived within a 15 minute drive of Sandia Peak Ski Area, and people would ask me if I liked to ski...

My response: “I spent a lot of my childhood summers on a dairy farm in Wisconsin, so I learned at an early age to not play in anything that I have to shovel....”

;~)

It’s a good thing for all of us that Knitting can suppress her teacherly instincts — otherwise we’d all be in the dog house for spelling and syntax....

Three reported American soldiers missing, supposed removed in Iraq
FALLOUJAH (Iraq) - Three American soldiers are reported missing and were probably removed by insurrectionists close to the town of Falloujah in the west of Baghdad, one learned near soldiers taking part in their research.

“We learned towards 09H00 (05H00 GMT) that three soldiers were carried missing. They moved in our direction and are supposed removed”, declared in AFP the sergeant James Curtis of the 2nd battalion, 6th regiment of Navy, in station in Falloujah.

The patrol of the Curtis sergeant established a stopping on a road in the east of Falloujah, to try to intercept the kidnappers, if they tried to move in this direction, towards the capital.

Old bastion of the insurrectionists, Falloujah, to 50 km in the west of Baghdad, underwent two bloody attacks in April and October 2004.

The city is located in the province of Al-Anbar, the nucleus of revolt sunnite in Iraq, where the American army lost the most soldiers since the invasion of Iraq in March 2003.

The situation had however recently improved in the area, since a coalition of tribes sunnites had decided to lend strong hand to the American army to fight against the groups related to Al-Qaïda, in particular around Ramadi, the capital of Al-Anbar located at 110 km of Baghdad.

Fox just said 5 of ours were killed in addition to 3 missing.

That’s why I’m happier being in Boise, where snow is light and not common, instead of Ogden, where one snow storm dumped over 30 inches on my very sloped driveway...I am not fond of snow in the street!

” Three reported American soldiers missing, supposed removed in Iraq “

I hope they don’t turn up in Iran — I’m afraid that if that were to happen, we would demonstrate that our response would be just as limp and toothless as Britain’s....

Just a bit of common sense from Hitchens.

Christopher Hitchens Can Teach Our Legal Establishment A Thing Or Two
Filed under: Terrorism, Civil Liberties, Public Policy — Justin Levine @ 6:57 pm
[posted by Justin Levine]

From Hitchens’ interview in Vanity Fair:

From your story this month, I get the feeling you think extremists such as Abu Hamza, the former Finsbury Park Mosque imam, should not go unnoticed. Would you eavesdrop on suspected extremists in Britain?
You don’t have to eavesdrop on someone who gets up in public and says, “Kill the Jews.”

True—
Someone who’s bellowing racism and malice through a megaphone, I don’t need to tap his fucking phone.

But you might want to tap the phone of the people who are listening to him.
If the Metropolitan Police are not listening to his phone and the phones of people like him, then they should be impeached and removed from office. I don’t think you’d have much difficulty getting that warrant.

Well said.
