Teen files suit to hold anti-gay event

The president of a public high school's Christian Club is suing for the right to hold an event at the school to air his anti-homosexuality views. Jason Aufiero, a senior at Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale, wants to hold a "Day of Truth" next week to present what he considers the biblical teaching against homosexuality.

His lawsuit, filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Newark, is backed by the Alliance Defense Fund, a conservative Christian legal group. Evangelical Christians have begun staging Day of Truth events in response to the national "Day of Silence" that some districts hold to show support for gay students.

That day is scheduled for next Wednesday at Northern Highlands; Aufiero wants to hold his event two days later. "The problem is that the district has continued to put roadblocks in front of the Christian viewpoint on subjects that are already discussed in the school," Aufiero's attorney Jeremy Tedesco told The Record.

The lawsuit accuses Schools Superintendent Robert McGuire and Principal John Keenan of violating Aufiero's right to free speech and religious freedom. Schools Superintendent McGuire termed the filed lawsuit as "overkill."

He also said that the district never tried to block the event but only wanted to address concerns about the content involved. He said that Aufiero's parents declined an offer to meet with school officials.

"Knowing it could possibly upset others, we wanted to iron these things out," he said. "But his attorneys feel there's no need to go along with us on these procedural issues."

"Teen files suit to hold anti-gay event"

Awesome! Here's hoping he wins the suit and is able to present the case for truth. I've long thought that Christians (and white males) need to form powerful legal groups that serve only to redress the oppression that is heaped on those two groups.

The truth IS NOT anti-anything, except lies. There is nothing good to come of lying to people, only the truth can be kind and loving. Do homosexuals deserve less?

He only wanted to address concerns about the content involved - Biblical teaching. So what would he do, censor the youth's program to the point that it becomes a non-event? And does he not realize that by giving one side carte blanche for a demonstration while trying to stifle an opposing view he already "upset others"?

Round two: For second year, N.J. school officials attempt to block student promotion of Day of Truth

Officials backed down last year after receiving letter from ADF attorneys; this year, lawsuit being filed

I’m sure this is a lie. They will never let the truth be told without being forced to.

They will cancel the “Gay day” before they will let the truth be told. I like this kind of lawsuit. They need to fear the right as well as the left.

If they hold a pro gay event then the anti gay students should have equal access to give their view.

I lived in Allendale growing up. I sure hope the Christian Club gets to have its say.

In school? Ban all student “community” groups. Let the queers go to a bath-house and let the Christians worship at church. Let the chess and math club continue. While the district is at it, enforce a standard uniform. Oh, and eliminate summer vacation.

Math club died out long ago in most schools. Same with the chess club.

The ironic thing is that if they want to stamp out pro-Christian student groups, they’re going to up creating case law and/or legislation that bans ALL extracurricular clubs (since the law is “all or none” right now) including the ones near and dear to liberal ‘hearts’.

Our middle school and high school have chess club, Young Life, and Latin club, among others. One of the advantages of living in the Bible belt. :)

Do homosexuals deserve less?

They deserve what the Bible says: 1Co 6:9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals

kid’s got as much chance as a snowball in Hades, but you gotta give him credit for at least trying.

Its a curious thing that the only way to counter this entire mess...is the US court system. The Duke 88 crowd are likely to be in the same arena soon...as well as alot of other folks.

“Day of Silence” only works because kids are intimidating into not speaking their minds. If they speak, the silence is broken.

While I’m glad to see someone willing to take the Leftist establishment to court for a change rather than the other way around, I get the sneaking suspicion that someone along the judicial line, be it a judge or a lawyer for the district, will label Mr. Aufiero’s event as “Hate Speech” and call it a day. Homosexuals are a protected class after all.

Public education can be crafty and deceitful when it comes to getting caught being biased.

They will have to play some sort of game here that involves more deception to win their case in court.

“kid’s got as much chance as a snowball in Hades, but you gotta give him credit for at least trying.”

To the contrary, ADF has been scoring victories on studnet speech cases across the country. Watch for the school to buckle in 5, 4, 3, 2...

I’ll put a wager on it.

It’s not “anti-gay”. The proper term is “pro-morality”.
