Major damage being reported...Tornado moving into the City of Dallas at this time.
I agree, that anyone would imply TRexas isnt in tornado alley is absurd.
“According to the National Climatic Data Center, Texas averaged 139 tornadoes per year in 1953 through 2004, followed by Oklahoma (57), Kansas and Florida (55), and Nebraska (45).
Looking at strong to violent tornadoes — those that are F2 to F5 on the Fujita scale — Texas averaged 29 per year, followed by Oklahoma (11) and Kansas and Iowa (9).”

What would happen if super tornado hit Dallas?
One thing I never got about news people telling people to take cover in an F5, if the radar shows an F5 heading for me and mine its seems like a good idea to try to get out of its way in light of this and the fact that we do not have a shelter below ground level:
“But in a super tornado, such precautions won’t necessarily ensure safety, Dr. Forbes said.
“If you’re above ground in an F5 tornado,” he said, “you’re probably going to be hurt pretty badly.”
In fact, Ive read that some died in the Moore tornado because they hunkered down when they could have got out of the way.
Statistically, DFW is way overdue for a big one.
May our luck, or more likely the grace of God continue.
PS: Local news said the lumber yard guy didnt die, but is critical. One other man did die when debris hit him on the head. 2 weather related traffic deaths also, including an Irving cop.
As I drove in there were 3 helicopters hovering over
Halton city surveying the damage.
This could mave been much worse, especially with the huge crowds at the speeday and rush hour traffic.
I hope everything went well in Conroe & with your granddaughters overnight.
I apologize for checking out early. We are fortunate nothing serious happened around this part of Texas - unlike the DFW area.
It’s cold now - espcially for mid-April. Highs predicted to be in the low 60’s today.
Tomorrow back to sunny & spring-like weather.
thanks, I checked with granddaughters this morning, they are fine, cooler there too. Now I am under tornado watch in Dothan AL. It’s 82 degrees here and storms are moving in!
I went to college with a girl from White Settlement. Stayed at her house once on my way back to Spring Tx. Nice little community (at least back in the 80's)
Just looked at the radar..looks like down in here Fairhope we might luck out and the weather go north of us.
Take care!
This time the tornadoes were farther north than I am by about 20 miles..
This is normal for the spring..but it is still nerve-wracking...
Yes..I am okay.
I told my husband I would NOT want to be anywhere near the High Five last night...
I guess it got rough a little north of there...and the east.
Yes..fine here.
Cold and gray this morning, VERY windy from the north.
It is going to be COLD for the folks at the Texas Motor Speedway.
GREAT POST...thank you very much.
I love knowing we have a freeper meteorolgist!
Rather chilly up here, too. Got out of mowing the lawns. :o) Glad you are good, Sleuth. Hope the gang at TMS brought jackets.
Oh my goodness, I didn’t even know what y’all were going through last night. I knew we were under a severe thunderstorm watch and there was a watch out for all of N. Tx as well as central Texas. We had one loud clap of thunder which served to scare the dog so badly she spent close to 2 hours crying and pacing.
We did have a tornado touchdown about a mile north of town either Thursday evening or Friday evening. I haven’t heard of any damage though.
Haltom City is pretty doggoned close to where we lived when we lived in the DFW area. Less than 2 miles away from where we lived according to the information in the news article in the Star-Telegram. (I was living there when the big hail storm hit the festival and if I remember correctly, one man was hit on the head by a hailstone. I know there were lots and lots of cars with hail dents for quite some time afterwards)
Prayers for the families who lost a loved one and for those who now get to deal with the storm damage.
Dallas is 5 1/2 hours north of me. Hope “M” is OK.
Is Massey’s still there?
Does anyone remember the Lone Star Drive Inn and Carshans?
Yes, things dont look good at all in your neck of the woods, now.
Please take all necessary precautions for you and your loved ones....
I have oodles of friends in the area. Specifically Grand Prairie and Irving besides Dallas proper.
>>DFW is way overdue for a big one.<<
What do you base this on? Of the list of 107 official F5 tornadoes, only 11 have hit Texas. Of those, they were scattered from the Red River to South Central Texas.
There’s no one place that’s more tornado prone than the other south of the Red River.
Thanks for checking in. I just got off the phone with my friend in Dallas so now everyone is accounted for. ;*)
