I'd guess that you have never actually lived and worked in Washington, DC.

Bush is terrible. I voted for him twice, but terrible is terrible. He wants to create a “czar” or “czarina” for everything, or worse, a federal department. He makes LBJ look like a tightwad.
But this stupid idea goes against the constitution, much like the CFR did.
well if any one was watching Gates and Pace the other day, they were asked about the very subject while discussing the extentions of troop deployments. Gates said the postion was not as discribed by the media. He said it was being created to co-ordinate all branches of government to cut back on the red tape and get every one on the same page and not run the war. So who do you want to believe? Gates’ version or some writer looking to create another controversy?
Next time he gets an idea for a position, I hope he nominates my cat, for she is named Czarina.
Media can’t get the story right but what they get right is their contempt for Bush... the story is the just a lead in and set up for perennial Bush bashing.

Has creating a government position ever reduced the amount of red tape? This smells like just another Big Government boondogle dreamed up by people who can manage the situation and want to pass the buck.

Bush should contact one of those who knew how to win in a cakewalk. Those would include Perle, Wolfowitz, Bolton, Feith, Adelman, Rice etc.
If actual military experience is a plus, add McCain. But usually the most knowledgeable about war are those without front line experience.
the example Gates gave was that there’d now be one person that reports to Bush on the status of upcoming deployments and equipment requests. He/she would be able to contact any department to see where the request was in the pipeline fundingwise, availability of equipment(Strykers for example) or additional troops, and when the additional troops/equipment would arrive in theatre.
Sounds like that person already exists and is Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.
Not to denigrate John McCain, but he was a pilot (like Bush). Military experience is nice in that it gives you an insight into how the organization works, but it does not guarantee any particular military expertise.
Jimmy Carter was in the Navy; so was John Kerry. Neither could lead a horse to water.
