The duration and distance were short, but in those dizzying seconds and feet, Gov. Jon Corzine suffered injuries serious enough to land him in intensive care with a breathing tube down his throat and a doctor declaring him lucky to be alive. The 60-year-old governor underwent about two hours of surgery last night to repair multiple broken bones, including 12 ribs and a femur that protruded through the skin of his thigh following a car accident on the Garden State Parkway in Galloway Township.
With two of his adult children by his beside, Corzine, sedated and on intravenous painkillers, remains in intensive care in Cooper University Hospital in Camden this morning. He required seven pints of blood, officials said, and is using a breathing tube to ease his respiration with the broken ribs, and a broken breastbone.
The governor also suffered a broken collarbone and lower back bone and a flap-like cut on his skull, which was a plastic surgeon stitched back together.
Corzine spokesman Anthony Coley said the governor did not appear to have suffered brain or spinal cord damage.

They did say they gave him 7 units of blood before surgery.
“Which one was your answer?’
Someone said the femoral artery was near the break and could be severed causing the blood loss. I will accept that is what the OP meant! Do you want to carry it further?
It’s a statistical thing, although there is some speculation that the REASON for the statistical anomaly is that people who don’t buckle up are more reckless. It just happens that people without seat belts are slightly more likely to be in an accident.
I also speculate that it could be that, if you aren’t wearing a seat belt and you have to swerve to avoid something in the road, you can lose your seat and therefore control of your car, and swerve back into other people. Being buckled in makes it easier to maintain some level of control of the vehicle. It’s hard to keep steering your car if you just flew out the window.
oddly, i believe they also showed that motorcycles without helmets had fewer accidents, although the result of those accidents was much more severe. I presume being able to hear what is going on, but who knows? It could all just be the random statistical bounces falling a certain way.
Illegals, taking the police side-swipes that Americans won’t take.
My guess is that he wasn’t wearing a seat belt. I recall that that is why Princess Diana was killed.
People who don’t wear seatbelts are more likely younger and/or more reckless. You are confusing causation with correlation.
People without helmets probably feel more vulnerable (I know I would), and have use a tad more caution.
These two may seem to contradict, but I don’t think they do.
Sure I do. I just don't believe in exposing myself to an idiotic media circus just so the state can make an example of me.
If this accident didn't involve the governor of New Jersey, the police probably wouldn't even be looking for the red pickup truck at all.
they would not be. at the scene where the red pickup pulled off the shoulder, they are taking tire tread samplings and collecting bottles and garbage to look for prints.
That’s right.
I thought at first it was illegal too ... but There are soooooo many union people, that are mad about there pensions
I was born there and I know the mafia could easily do it,
Only the drivers know for sure!
They flew them to a hospital. I hope they’re okay. Mr. Corzine needs to obey the laws of his own state. He was badly injured and probably could have avoided some of that had he been wearing his seat belt.
BS....I don’t believe it!!!
A few people here go ballistic when illegal aliens are mentioned.
I sometimes post on threads on illegal aliens, mostly regarding Johnny Sutton who is a more powerful version of Mike Nifong. On a thread about the Duke rape case, somebody (seems it was a long name) jumped on me for mentioning illegal aliens and how sick she/he was about it and to go somewhere else. Only I had not mentioned on that thread the IA word and had not directly or indirectly referred to Johnny Sutton or anything remotely related to illegal aliens.
