[BREAKING] N.J. Gov. Corzine Hurt In Car Accident
WBZTV.COM ^ | 12 APRIL 2007 | AP

(CBS) GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. New Jersey Gov. Jon S. Corzine was injured Thursday night in a car accident on the Garden State Parkway, but a spokesman says the injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Corzine was elected governor of New Jersey in November 2006, soundly beating Republican businessman Doug Forrester in a race that set records for campaign spending but alienated voters with its mean-spirited politicking. With 97 percent of precincts reporting, Corzine had 53 percent to Forrester's 44 percent.

“Nope. A way for Corzine to walk away from the current NJ pension scandal.”

Corzine gets into a car accident. McGreevey says he’s gay.

Can’t wait to see what comes next.

Now they’ll figure out how to get some poor schmuck Republican into the Governor’s Office long enough to pin the whole NJ pension scandal onto the GOP.

...or not. This scandal may be too large to spin.

Mark Levin reported that New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine was on his way to a meeting with the Rutgers women’s basketball team and Don Imus at his Princeton, NJ Mansion. According to Associated Press:

The crash occurred when a pickup truck on the right shoulder of the highway swerved then came back onto the highway, said State Police Superintendent Rick Fuentes. Another pickup in the right lane swerved into the passenger side of the sport utility vehicle in which Corzine was riding, he said.

Reuters reports it a hit-and-run accident.

Corzine is in critical condition following surgery for his broken leg. His condition is not considered life threatening.

I know the circumstances of "who did what", but again in NJ accidents from the rear are almost always faulted to the driver following. In this case the rationale would be that either the trooper was 1.) going too fast 2.) following to closely 3.)not paying attention, or some combination of the three.

A couple of years ago I saw a driver get rear ended after he locked up all four wheels for a cat crossing the road. The driver who hit him, got the ticket, and the hospital stay. The cat walked away unharmed.

The story I just heard on the news tonight is that Corzine doesn't wear a seatbelt when he's being driven around in that SUV.

Oh, well . . .

You reckon he buys carbon credits in order to drive that gas guzzling beast to be guilt free? :-)

I think he just learned the hard, painful way, that he should be wearing one.

It was a clear hit attempt by his on and off again girl friend Carla Katz who is unhappy with how her house expansion is not working out at the home that was purchased with Corzine’s 400K gift.

And Bush was behind it too. He had Corzine sitting on his seatbelt.

So there you have it.

What's most disgraceful about it is that he's driven around by a New Jersey state trooper!

has anyone heard how fast the Governor’s SUV was going? 60-70-80? That part of the GSP (Garden State Parkway for those not from NJ) it isolated, and at mile marker 44, is between the exits for Atlantic City. Traffic runs at 75 there.

However, our elected officials are known here for going fast fast and fast.

My prediction is that we will not hear about how fast that SUV was going.

bill from NJ

You know we almost need a special thread here just to keep track of the murders and drunk driving deaths they do on a daily basis..if we all reported in from our areas maybe then some people will start to believe the numbers...

judging from the photo at the accident scene - it appears to be a gas-guzzling SUV !!!!!!!

ironically if it had been a prius - NJ might be swearing in the lieutenant governor.

From the New York Times:

In a 9 p.m. news conference at the hospital here, Col. Joseph R. Fuentes, superintendent of the New Jersey State Police, said that a red pickup truck entered the highway “erratically from the shoulder,” causing a white Dodge Ram pickup truck to swerve left. The governor’s driver, State Trooper Robert Rasinski, swerved to avoid the white truck, but hit it, and then slid into the guard rail, with the impact on the passenger side.

Colonel Fuentes said neither weather nor speed appeared to be a factor. He said Trooper Rasinski did “an excellent job handling the situation, considering that a car swerved into his path.”

The driver of the white truck stopped, he said, but the red truck did not. The state police will be examining cameras on the highway in hopes of identifying the red truck. Mr. Fuentes said he was unsure whether Mr. Corzine was wearing a seatbelt.

Is it true that NJ has some of the most congested and worse highways in the country?
