The German Army sent a draft notice to a four-week-old baby named Lucio, ordering him to report for duty within the next 10 days, before realising it had blundered.
An army spokesman said the notice had been sent erroneously because a clerk typed in the wrong date of birth for the boy from Aubstadt, in southern Germany.
"It was an accident," an army spokesman said.
"Somebody entered the wrong number into a computer. There was no harm done.
"We realised the error the same day and called up the family to tell them to throw the notice away when it arrived."

Even Hitler wasn’t that desperate for soldiers at the end of WWII.

HA HA HA those arrogant, peace-loving Euros need a draft? Even us “cowboys” (and cowgirls) don’t need one.

Wow, I didn’t realize that Germany was such a police state that they would draft infants into the army!

It is much easier to get recruits to crawl under barbed wire when they can't walk yet.

"We realised the error the same day and called up the family to tell them to throw the notice away when it arrived." Yeah, and four years from now it will show up in a computer and the family will be arrested for harboring a fugitive! ;^)

I guess they could get the infantry from their infancy.

About mid-way through Marine Boot camp in 1965, one of the members of my platoon received his draft notice in a distintive envelope. The D.I. had him open the envelope and read aloud it’s contents. We ALL paid a price for him “alledgely wanting to get out of the Marine Corps”. Looking back it was real funny.

Well, at least they seem to have taken a prompt corrective action for the screwup. Somebody will get an enema over it.

During the late 50’s, six months after he went active duty, my father got a draft notice.
