None of these ‘close the border’ people have a real plan about what to do about the illegal immigrants, but things are changing a little.

Until you secure the border, including having the ability to control visa overstays, which account for about one-third of the illegals, you can't address those already here. One thing we shouldn't do is give them a path to citizenship.

Here are a couple of websites that I enjoy referencing occasionally. They detail Mexico’s immigration/population policy. bush should consider patterning our immigration policy after Mexico’s. Would Mexico be pleased, ya think?

Catch phrases and "plans" President Bush will once again try to foist on us:

“Amnesty for illegals.”

“I want a bipartisan immigration plan.”

“They are just doing the jobs Americans don't want to do.”

“They are hard working, and have strong family values.”

“They deserve the American dream.”

“Social Security benefits and free health care... free EVERYTHING/fill in the blank for illegal aliens.”

“Mr. Illegal; just pay a $2000 fine and all that America has to offer is YOURS!”

“Our borders are secure.”

Instead of the above lies and “schlock” all I want to hear him say is this: I have ordered the National Guard to secure the borders and everyone who is here illegally will be rounded up and deported. If they wish to return LEGALLY they must apply to INS and follow the rules like everybody else.

Unjless and until he says this... I am no longer listening; they can all go and pound sand.

We all know this problem has been developing for decades, but it would seem given the war on Islamofacism and the terrorists patience and willingness to do whatever is necessary to kill us, that this would be an important time to plug up the holes.

OUr brave men and women are fighting away the wolves at the front door while we’ve left the back door open.

Illegal Immigration cannot be seperated from illegal drug trade or the mission of the Islamofacists.

See rottndog’s #96.

President Bush, unfortunately is a globalist, or at the very least, he acts like one. (don’t want to be judgmental here....)

He needs to change his ways.

I have never defended the guest worker program, but I do defend against hyperbole and false attacks that are not based in facts, but rather in emotional poppycock.

I, in fact, posted a thread a while back with the sole purpose of expressing thoughtful opinions about the illegal issue, for and against the President's policy (I, being against), without rancor and argumentation. (And the kind of mindless bashing that's prominent on this thread).

It actually worked for a few thousand posts.

If that makes me 'pathological' in your book, then so be it. But it looks a lot more like you're the one who doesn't care to be civil......

He's said it more than once...

"Mi Casa Blanca es su Casa Blanca" my White House is your White House, Bush said, welcoming 18 Latino dignitaries and celebrities, including ambassadors, administration officials and pro baseball stars to the White House.."

Another thoughtful post.

Thanks for reinforcing the mindless drivel that is making me leave this thread.

He always emphasizes the border, but because he also mentions dealing with those already here ... which we have to do, by the way ... fries the brain cells of the one-issue people here.

Rubbish. To start with, we can start enforcing the laws already on the books. Second, we need to make a concerted effort to gather data on the problem, i.e., the number of illegals and where they are located. We should require schools, hospitals, law enforcement, to gather this data as part of doing business. We can't make good public policy without this information. Third, there should be no sanctuary cities. Finally, enforcement first. Until Bush and his supporters of comprehensive reform can prove that they are serious about enforcement and securing our borders, nothing else should be done.

The Texas Border cam project was so successful in watching illegals crossing the border that Texas cancelled that program.

Anything, shamnesty, guestworkers, etc., can go on the table as soon as the border is secure.
Not before.

President Bush, why aren’t the 18,000 there now? How many are really needed to do the job?

98% of Illegals Arrested Were Not Prosecuted

EL PASO, Texas -- For all the tough talk in Washington on immigration, illegal aliens caught along the Mexican border have almost no reason to fear they will be prosecuted. Ninety-eight percent of those arrested between Oct. 1, 2000, and Sept. 30, 2005, were never prosecuted for illegally entering the country, according to an Associated Press analysis of federal data. Those 5.2 million aliens were simply escorted back across the Rio Grande and turned loose. Many presumably tried to slip into the United States again.
