COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — A Nebraska woman was charged with neglect of a dependent person after leaving her husband unattended in a car outside a casino.

Judy Lea Fairbanks, 52, of Bellevue, Neb., was charged Saturday after she was found gambling at the Horseshoe Casino in Council Bluffs.

Police said she left her husband in the car and taped a sign to the window, which said "I have a disability. Do not be alarmed. I am resting. Please do not call security."

Every time I see a bay of slot machines I note the zombie like expressions of the gamblers. In about another year I'll take my kids to see them so they can compare the real with what's on the riverboat commercials.

It's a free country, of course.

My wife did the exact same thing to me at the craft store!

If what I just wrote made you sad or angry,
it was probably just a joke.

So, was she winning or losing?

If you use "gambler's math", she "thinks she's ahead."

Not to worry. She will now claim she is also disabled from a gambling addiction. SSI will double and she can then hire a sitter for her husband while she gambles.

I’d certainly rather be left in the car than dragged into the casino.

She probably brought him along so she could get a good parking spot near the casino entrance.

So who’s taking care of the poor man now that his wife is in jail?
