Anyone know where Giuliani stood on McCain-Feingold?

Its not fascination, but the fact there are many things he says that tend to be more in-line with a pure conservative position than the existing candidates. And, the folksy nature, similar to Reagan helps.

You said it......

I’m tired of these experts telling us who we are supposed to vote for.

I’ve never like George Will’s columns, so this doesn’t surprise me.

I hate these snobby people from the rags.

Let them start this “hate on Fred”......it will only help Mr. Thompson. imho

George Will, who is an inside-the-Beltway elitist but someone whom I otherwise respect, has already endorsed a candidiate.

A case of the pot calling the kettle black. Will is another one of those “Inside the Beltway” conservatives who like to pontificate that they are the only true conservatives.

Giuliani has described himself as a “very, very strong” supporter of McCain-Feingold.

Fred Thompson must not be “beltway enough” for those who are infected with beltway disease.

Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment:
“Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican.”

“Republicans believe every day is the Fourth of July,
but Democrats believe every day is April 15.”

I hope he gets in the race, but until he actually says those words (I’m running for President of the United States) I refuse to get all that excited about him.
That being said, the excitement about him says something about the other candidates in the race now.

Put Fred's past support of McCain-Feingold (he no longer supports it) side by side with Hunter's lack of fiscal discipline, and examine them both.

Both are departures from conservative orthodoxy, but which is more fundamental to conservatism? You may arrive at a different answer than I did, but I've seen what big-spending, big-government conservatives can do. They can make fiscal conservatives stay home on election day.

At least Thompson has admitted that McCain Feingold was not the right answer to the problem of big-money donors having their pet projects voted on by the same pols they gave the money to. has Duncan Hunter admnitted that he should have exercised more fiscal restraint?

You’ll have to read it yourself as I don’t have it on tape.

At least I can make my points without insult, which seems to be difficult for many of the less educated.

Your links demonstrate his favorable voting record for his 1 1/3 terms as senator, which I acknowledged.

Declared Fred Thompson supporters should consider that quidnunc raises a legitimate question. If John Glenn was able to “turn him every which way but loose,” that’s telling of something.

Once he commits and people find out more about him they will start picking him apart and be looking for the next new “if he would only run we would be saved candidate”.

Actually just the opposite is happening. The more people see of Fred, the more they like what they see.

I used to love William F Buckley Jr. Now, he seems to have lost some of his edge...but still wonderful to read what he can do with language..fascinating.

Most people might not like the ending, not as embarassing as Rudy in a dress, but still embarassing none the less lol.
It is a funny video though.

Fred Thompson doesn't have the leadership or executive ability to be president and if he gets the GOP nomination whoever the Democratic nominee is will beat him like a dusty carpet ...

Other possiblity(if quidnunc is right): he wins, and the United States has a (nother??) Republican administration that regularly gets beat like a dusty carpet by Democrats.

That's what I don't want out of the 2008 election. Been there, done that -- with my beloved Dubya to some degree, and to our Republican Governator in California. Sure, I maintain that even a skunky Arnold is better than what Cruz Bustamonte would have been, but ... is Massachusetts more conservative?? And do Massachusetts values set the standard for America with regard to what Joe American voter wants in a Republican?

It just bugs the hell out of me that the best Republicans can put up is liberal enough to be Governor of Massachusetts. *sigh*

Liking Fred has nothing to do with it. This could be a token article to keep George’s invitations coming in from all his lefty friends.

I can’t believe some people haven’t figured it out yet!!

Cyber, could it just be you that is not figuring it out?

George Will is only superficially conservative. He almost never “gets it.” The Republicans that he shuns are the life blood of conservative Republicanism.
