Our latest electoral college map shows that regardless of candidate, if the election were held today, a Democrat would be elected to the nations highest office. Red states that would flip include: Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Missouri, Iowa, Arkansas, Ohio and West Virginia. No Blue state would become red. The count would be: Democrats, 306, Republicans 232.
Too bad for the Democrats he can't run anymore.
The 2006 election was essenailly a referendum on Iraq with obvious results. 2008 will be about two actual human beings running against each other, and we'll see.
You said young AND hot.
Two things, IMO, happened that turned people off to the GOP: Iraq, and the Christian Socialists posing as conservatives. The fact that some Freepers are pushing guys like Tancredo and Hunter isn’t helping matters any. If you pick somebody who’s going to look like an extremist, then you deserve to lose the election.
I honestly don’t care who does it. I know the holy roller/family values/mom, apple pie & baseeball conservatives don’t have the stomach for this kind of stuff. They are better quality people than that, and the actual leaders and candidates are too good to do it, too.
Me on the other hand, I’m not better than that at all. We need to find some more mean people in our ranks and GOP leadership to break some people in two.
Well I ain't agonna vote fer no libral. That guy from New York, I forgit his name, well I got the inside dope on him. Straight from the horses mouth. I was down to tha Postal Office this mornin', pickin up my check an' I heard 'em talkin. Right there in the U.S. Government Postal Office. They says he's a Philatelist. Right there in the Post Office, thay said it aloud.
Well a man's got a right to have his goats. Got nuthin' agin' that. But doin' THAT with a goat well it's against somethin'. I'd wooden do none of that. Cept that night me an' Luther got drunk but that was a time ago. So there you have it. I ain't votin' fer no libral.
the MSM doesn’t campaign against the Dems, you know that.
the MSM turned a nobody like Obama, into a “front runner”, in about 8 weeks.
Uhhh...no.
To the extent the recent Hispanic immigrant vote is a factor, it is because it is getting proportionally larger. Generally, that vote is always going to go to the Democrats, regardless of what position the GOP takes. There is a significant number of Hispanics which does not accept that amnesty is a good thing, BTW. 40% of Hispanics voted for Prop. 187 in California, and from what I recall, an even larger proportion voted for Prop. 200 in Arizona.
That whole "grant amnesty or Hispanics will vote against you" argument is bunk, and always has been.
What the illegal immigration debate really is comes down to the elites who benefit from illegal immigration vs. the regular joes who pay the price in higher taxes and lower wages.
This makes no sense. Anyone that has immigration as a passionate issue is not going to forsake the Republican party expecting the Democrats to be stronger on the issue. That would be folly.
Furthermore, if conservatives support the troops they will vote.
If conservatives want to stab the troops in the back, they will stay home.
Since conservatives are not anti-American traitors, they will vote and the GOP will win.
I didn’t say we should grant amnesty to get that vote - but the immigration debacle didn’t help, and these comments from Tancredo and Gingrich don’t either.
the shift in the hispanic voting block in 2006, was clearly evident. if it holds in 2008, its trouble and will be most evident in these western states.
I am tired of hearing of all the horrible things that could happen! The truth is, it all comes down to the fight. Anything could happen. Right now we do not have a candidate our there making a case for conservative principles. The truth is,, should a real leader emerge or step forward from the Republicans, everything will change. There has not been a leader out there in over 4 or 5 years. Dems have had everything given to them. As soon as they accuse, Republicans cower or eat their own, or Bush undermines them. I don’t think a great majority want to vote Democrat, it just happens to be the only argument they hear. They hear the liberal agenda in the movies, on TV, from politicians, from their teachers and in the papers. I really think these Dems are paper tigers, I think they are cowards, and I think that if the right leader were to emerge,, someone who had a pair, if you know what I mean,, someone that talked plain with a little humor and could educate the public as well,, the Dems would self destruct.
Bush could have both secured the borders and gotten a guest worker plan, maybe more, between the 2004 and 2006 election if he deigned to work with fellow Republicans, but he wouldn't do that.
The media could have crowed racism all day long, but Bush could have sailed into the 2006 elections with a Republican base happy with secure borders and Hispanics happy with a guest worker plan, perhaps more. I believe this would have kept Republicans in control of both the House and Senate.
But, Bush's "comprehensive" all or nothing plan, got him exactly nothing and he blew a huge opportunity with Hispanics for decades to come. Worst of all, anything he sign now, the media will be able to twist into credit for the Democrats.
I'm beginning to agree with the Democrats, Bush is too stupid to lead this country.
Uh, your own statistic proves that "freedomdefender" is right, and you're full of it. Even in Bush's supposed "high attraction" to Hispanics, almost two-thirds of them STILL voted Democrat. Hispanics have and will continue to vote Democrat. The only Hispanics who have NOT voted thusly are Cubans.
That's not all bad. US history (again, at least in modern times) shows that when opposing parties are in control of the Executive and Legislative branches, Washington tends to govern best. Personally I think that's because the balance of power keeps either branch from getting too far afield. I strongly favor small, effective, non-intrusive government.
If I had my druthers, the only way a new law could be adopted would be if two were repealed in its place. Having opposite parties in charge of the White House and Congress is a reasonable approximation to that ideal.
Most people here in flyover country don’t give a rat’s butt about the MSM. They couldn’t stop the Nixon, Reagan and Bush 41 landslides when there was only the Big Three. And now with talk radio, internet & blogs and Fox News, they are less relevant.
