Giuliani stands by support of publicly-funded abortions

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (CNN) -- Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani told CNN Wednesday he supports public funding for some abortions, a position he advocated as mayor and one that will likely put the GOP presidential candidate at odds with social conservatives in his party.

"Ultimately, it's a constitutional right, and therefore if it's a constitutional right, ultimately, even if you do it on a state by state basis, you have to make sure people are protected," Giuliani said in an interview with CNN's Dana Bash in Florida's capital city.

-

Giuliani also vowed to appoint conservative judges to the bench, though denied such a promise was a "wink and a nod" to conservatives in support of overturning Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision on abortion.

"A strict constructionist judge can come to either conclusion about Roe against Wade," he said. "They can look at it and say, 'Wrongly decided thirty years ago, whatever it is, we'll over turn it.' [Or] they can look at it and say, 'It has been the law for this period of time, therefore we are going to respect the precedent.' Conservatives can come to that conclusion as well. I would leave it up to them. I would not have a litmus test on that."

I am mainly a War on Terror Voter, low taxes and cutting government spending is secondary. Everything else is important, but im going with my heart and the issues that are crucial.

If the terrorists start killing a million Americans a year like the baby killers do, then it will be reasonable to put the WOT on the top of the list.

On numerous occasions, Romney vetoed pro-abortion bills and forced the Democratic legislature to override them.

If there were pro-abortion bills that he signed without a veto, then go ahead and post them here.

Perhaps you should read the thread. Lots of FReepers are jumping off the Rudy bandwagon.

Now that Rudy peaked in the polls and he’s beginning to shift into panic mode, do you think he’ll become more shrill than Hillary?

As Rush has said. It should not be a political issue.

And I'm just saying that I disagree. They're equally unacceptable to me.

So to you EV, Rudy = Mitt?

You have no sense of proportion.

You’re right, at the federal level. Roe made it a federal issue and it will continue to be until Roe is overturned and it is once again in the hands of the states.

There are a hole lot of people making the prediction that if and when people become better informed on where Rudy stands on the issues, his support will drop.

Most politicians would be saying whatever they need to say to get as much support as possible, flip flopping is not an uncommon tactic of today’s politicians.

Giuliani apears to not wave away from his convictions in favor of gaining in the polls.

We’ll see what happens.

"And I'm just saying that I disagree. They're equally unacceptable to me."

That's because you are incapable of distinguishing differences and are dishonest about them to your self and others.

There is a huge difference between the personal lives of Romney and Guiliani, one, Romney a grandfather who has five children, ten grandchildren and has been faithfully married to one woman for many years and the other, a cheating husband, twice divorced and thrice married.

Guiliani, at one time a pro-lifer, is running as a Liberal pro-choicer, while Romney is running on a conservative, Republican platform.

Romney will not revert to a leftward direction. Thus, as president he will have to govern more conservatively an far more conservatively then Giuliani. We have been over this Terry more than once. Furthermore, conservatives and pro-lifers have a place in his campaign and will have a place in Romney's administration. This is not nearly as likely in a Giuliani administration.

Like it or not, you are not going to be able to stop Romney, the one man currently in the race who can stop Guiliani AND Mrs. Clinton.

and once it returns to the states - and the social conservatives see how few states, through their elected legislative process, are going to outlaw abortion for adult women in the first trimester - those same voices will be looking for an activist SCOTUS to restrict states’ rights on the issue. I guarantee it.

I’m not surprised.

Your head is stuck too far up the rear-end of massresistance’s butt.

Pull it out of there for awhile, and see how leaders of many Christian conservative groups are now endorsing Romney.

He actually loosened gun restrictions in Massachusetts by signing into law a less stringent gun-control law to replace the one from 1998.

But this thread is about abortion. Particularly publicly-funded abortion. And Rudy Giuliani.

Right. Did you ever acknowledge that RomneyCare included taxpayer-funded abortions?
