Giuliani stands by support of publicly-funded abortions
CNN ^ | 4/4/07 | Staff

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (CNN) -- Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani told CNN Wednesday he supports public funding for some abortions, a position he advocated as mayor and one that will likely put the GOP presidential candidate at odds with social conservatives in his party.

"Ultimately, it's a constitutional right, and therefore if it's a constitutional right, ultimately, even if you do it on a state by state basis, you have to make sure people are protected," Giuliani said in an interview with CNN's Dana Bash in Florida's capital city.

-

Giuliani also vowed to appoint conservative judges to the bench, though denied such a promise was a "wink and a nod" to conservatives in support of overturning Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision on abortion.

"A strict constructionist judge can come to either conclusion about Roe against Wade," he said. "They can look at it and say, 'Wrongly decided thirty years ago, whatever it is, we'll over turn it.' [Or] they can look at it and say, 'It has been the law for this period of time, therefore we are going to respect the precedent.' Conservatives can come to that conclusion as well. I would leave it up to them. I would not have a litmus test on that."

I’m just saying that Romney is more credible than Giuliani on abortion and other social issues.

Your hate towards Giuliani has become irrational. What do Giuliani’s abortion positions have to do with the constitution? Today we need to worry about terrorism, not aboriton. And who better than Giuliani to fight those who want to harm us.

Can someone who is familiar with NYC elections explain something to me? In doing some research on Rudy, I see that in 93 when he ran he ran on both the Republican and LIBERAL party tickets. I can’t seem to find answers on what the purpose was running on the Liberal ticket and how that came to be.

As much as I hate to say it, I think we’re going to have to put up a nominee that is a little closer to the center to win this time. We were in much better shape in 04 and Kerry was a fairly weak candidate and we were still only one state away from losing. Unfortunately, I just don’t see Fred Thompson being able to do it...maybe I’m wrong. I think Mitt would get smoked in the general, McCain or Giuliani may be the best chance. I haven’t decided yet. I’d rather end up with a moderate Republican rather than a liberal Democrat if that’s what it takes to win what looks to be a very tough 08 election.

Rudy’s stance on abortion is not “one issue”. It’s two issues:

1) abortion

2) government-funded healthcare

But when you combine the two, you have a lethal combination for a republican candidate going into a primary.

Rudy has two choices at this point:

1)drop out of the ‘08 Presidential race and look for a cabinet appointment in the next administration

2) run as an independent and hand the presidency to Hillary.

My greatest fear is that he will feel snubbed by the Republican party, and run as an independent.

What do Giuliani’s abortion positions have to do with the constitution?

It means that Giuliani has no respect for the Constitution.

Today we need to worry about terrorism, not aboriton.

No matter who's President, the WOT will have to be addressed.

And who better than Giuliani to fight those who want to harm us.

Giuliani was simply in the right place at the right time, and his brand of leadership fit NYC to a T. That's all.

A) He didn't implement gay marriage. That's a flat-out lie, and one that I noticed your were unable to back up with any facts. Romney would have been breaking the law by being in contempt of court if he stood in the way of gay marriage after the Supreme Court's ruling.

Same-sex marriage licenses are null & void

B)"the radical gay line"? Puh-leaze. That point doesn't even deserve a response.

Homosexual "Rights"

Gov. Romney has a long history of promoting and furthering the homosexual agenda, and working closely with leading gay activists

Romney twice sought and received the endorsement of the homosexual Log Cabin Republican Club

Romney's campaign distributed pro-gay rights campaign literature during Boston's "Gay Pride" events

Romney supports homosexual "anti-discrimination" laws

Such laws are usually carried out at the expense of freedom of religion and speech. For example, they would allow lawsuits against a Christian book store owner for refusing to hire a homosexual activist applicant.

Romney advocates homosexual couples' adoption rights be recognized by the government

Romney supports homosexual domestic partnerships

Romney supported and promoted legalizing homosexual civil unions

Romney Opposes the Boy Scouts' Ban on Homosexual Scoutmasters

Romney barred Boy Scouts from public participation in 2002 Olympics

Homosexual activism in government

Romney appointed prominent homosexuals to key positions in his administration

Romney appointed prominent homosexual activists and Democrats as judges

Romney Rewards one of the State's Leading Anti-Marriage Attorneys by Making him a Judge

Romney announces he won't fill judicial vacancies before term ends

Romney's Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth used huge taxpayer funding to promote homosexuality in the public schools

Romney's Commission organized public gay "Youth Pride Day" parades and "transgender proms" which promote unhealthy and risky behavior

Romney issues a proclamation celebrating gay "Youth Pride Day"

Romney's Department of Education promotes the homosexual agenda

Romney's Department of Public Health (DPH) cooperates with the homosexual activist movement

Romney opposed federal legislation that would stop public schools from promoting homosexuality

Romney's Dept. of Social Services honors homosexual "married" couple as adoptive "Parents of the Year"

Homosexual "Marriage"

Romney refused to endorse the original 2002 Mass. constitutional amendment absolutely defining marriage as one man and one women

Romney unnecessarily (and unconstitutionally) implemented homosexual marriages in Massachusetts

Romney had marriage licenses changed to allow same-sex marriages

Romney administration ordered Justices of Peace to perform homosexual "marriages" when asked - or be fired!

Romney administration's training of Town Clerks (on how to issue same-sex marriage licenses) states that marriage statutes were not changed

Romney signs bill eliminating Sexual Transmitted Disease (STD) testing requirement for marriage

When requested of him, Romney personally issues special one-day certificates to allow otherwise unqualified people to perform homosexual "marriages"

Was Romney's public opposition to homosexual "marriage" based on expediency, not principle?

Abortion is more than just one issue.

It's about the respect for life overall.

It's also a broken window to other crimes. Child porn, babies being left in dumpsters, teen pregnancies, etc. are all from abortion.

“If you’re the executive and it’s right, if it’s your duty, sign the bill. If they override it, that’s their responsibility.”

The bills are sent to the governor by the legislature. Why would he sign a bill that they sent him if he doesn’t agree with the bill? He’d veto it...which is what I assume you meant to write. But he wouldn’t “sign the bill” as you wrote.

And in any case, you better go back and read my other posts. Romney *did* veto the pro-abortion bills. They were overridden. But you suggested that the governor can somehow override a veto.

How can a governor override a veto?

"President Bush on the other hand makes Lyndon Johnson look like fiscal moderate."

Sadly this is true, but you have to realize that the republican congress was writing the checks and the president was signing them. Bush could have shown leadership and stood against the runaway spending, but only seemed to encourage it.

What do Giuliani’s abortion positions have to do with the constitution?

In the Preamble, "posterity," or those yet unborn, are recognized as having equal rights to the Blessings of Liberty.

Today we need to worry about terrorism, not aboriton.

The abortionists killed about 4000 children TODAY in this country. How many did the terrorists get?

he is confusing “Constitutional Rights” of the individual with government’s obligation to fund it.

No, let him alone. He’s going to buy me some guns, and a tv station so I can exercise my constitutional rights.

Actually, dozens of states would outlaw abortion except in the cases of rape, incest and the life of mother. The majority in polls show the American public in favor of outlawing abortion for convenience sake.

Leadership qualities. Rudy has it

So did Hitler and Stalin? Would you vote for either if they were running?

How incredible ignorant does a "conservative" have to be to vote for a liberal because he has leadership qualities?

Since you posted links that quoted the Family Research Council and Liberty Counsel from 2004, I figured that you might want to read something more recent relating to their current opinion of Mitt’s effort to outlaw gay marriage:

I am not, nor will I ever, defend Abortion. It is shamefull.

If you think it's shameful, you wouldn't vote for man that wants to use your tax dollars to fund it.

And, Giuliani is a LIBERAL on EVERY issue except taxes and the war on terror...He is rabidly pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, anti-second amendment, pro-illegal immigration, pro man-made global warming and spent money like a drunken sailor in whorehouse in his last five years as mayor.
