Hollywood star John Travolta was forced to make an emergency landing in Ireland on Monday while piloting his private Boeing 707 from Germany to New York.
The actor, who was flying back to the USA after promoting his new movie Wild Hogs in Germany, landed safely at Shannon Airport after his Boeing 707-138B suffered "technical difficulties", thought to be engine-related. He was said to be unhurt but shaken by the dramatic incident. The 53-year-old, the only private individual to own a Boeing 707, serial number N707JT, hired another aircraft and completed the journey while the 707 was grounded for repairs.
Eight years ago the star suffered a similar mid-air drama when his plane lost an engine and he was forced to make an emergency landing in Boston.

You may be correct but I believe it is more for the preaching how the little people should be more careful with the planet while he flies his big plane, in other word, hypocrisy not class envy.

How the hell could he afford a places like that with those planes even? He can’t be that rich? I would think maintaining toys like that would be in the billionaires only club.

I think it’s great that he can spend the money he made on whatever he wants, and I’m sure he expertly pilots his 707. I don’t think it means that I belong at DU because I don’t like hypocrits who will turn around and lecture the rest of us to change our lifestyles when they themselves will not. For that, he’s in the same category to me as Barbra Streisand and Al Gore.

One cross Country flight in his 707 uses more fuel than 50 of us will use in a lifetime. Then he wants us to cut back.

I don't think the FAA will allow a plane like the 707 to be flown solo.Nope, they don't.

His affiliation with Scientology has caused some controversy. In 1998 he was named in a lawsuit involving a former member of the Church that claims that he was promised by the Church that his homosexuality could be cured. The lawsuit alleged that the organization frequently cited Travolta as proof that the organization could in fact change a person’s sexual orientation. A lawyer for Travolta replied, “This looks like complete hogwash. Travolta is a happily married man, which proves he isn’t gay.” [1]. Depite his lawyer’s contention, rumors of Travolta’s homosexuality persist.
