ESCONDIDO -- Relatives of a U.S. Border Patrol agent convicted of shooting a drug smuggling suspect in Texas and then lying about it spoke about the family's ordeal at a church service Sunday.

"It's just been a nightmare," Monica Ramos told an Escondido congregation. "I never thought I'd be standing here, being my husband's voice."

Ramos's husband, Ignacio Ramos, and fellow former agent Jose Alonso Compean were convicted last year of shooting Osvaldo Aldrete Davila, a drug smuggling suspect, as the man fled across the Rio Grande near El Paso, Texas, into Mexico after a confrontation with the agents.

This is a disgrace.

I hate to compare the US to the fall of the Roman empire, but this type of biting our own tail reminds me of that time in Rome. You can add all the military tech leaks/pirating to the list as well.

It is pathetic what passes for 'justice' in today's America.

It is the 'suits' that lead this country who belong in jail.

The 911 Families sought to present Agent Ramos with a Holy Bible; prison officials stated Agent Ramos, in solitary confinement, could not receive the Holy Bible.

Too bad he's not a foreigner terrorist in Gitmo, he'd get a prayer rug, a Koran, and whatever else he damands.

For all the analysis about the 'crime' these agents were convicted of, none of it matters. What upsets the American people, IMO, is that a border agent can't shoot a drug smuggling alien in the butt!

“When he was in the “general population” of the prison some of the Hispanic inmates beat him severely, because he was “La Migra.” He is safer in solitary, but I don’t believe he “deserves” extra punisment. My opinion: either the federal corrections system doesn’t know what it is doing, or someone in that system is intentionally persecuting him.”

I cannot argue with that. He should be in a facility that gives him safety, without having to be in solitary. This is very wrong on so many levels.
