Giuliani is a Liar (vanity)

Sean Hannity Interview, 2007:

HANNITY: Let me move on. And the issue of guns has come up a lot. When people talk about Mayor Giuliani, New York City had some of the toughest gun laws in the entire country. Do you support the right of people to carry handguns?

GIULIANI: I understand the Second Amendment. I support it. People have the right to bear arms. When I was mayor of New York, I took over at a very, very difficult time. We were averaging about 2,000 murders a year, 10,000...

HANNITY: You inherited those laws, the gun laws in New York?

GIULIANI: Yes, and I used them. I used them to help bring down homicide. We reduced homicide, I think, by 65-70 percent. And some of it was by taking guns out of the streets of New York City.

So if you're talking about a city like New York, a densely populated area like New York, I think it's appropriate. You might have different laws other places, and maybe a lot of this gets resolved based on different states, different communities making decisions. After all, we do have a federal system of government in which you have the ability to accomplish that.

From a 2000 interview with Tim Russert:

Tim Russert: How about registration of ALL handguns?

Rudy Giuliani: Uh, you know I'm in favor of that. I've been on your show many times, talking about, uh, the program that the president (Clinton) talked about in his state of the union speech - I have been giving speeches about and talked about on your show for the last 10 to 15 years. Which is, I believe, is that we should treat the possession of a handgun the way we treat driving an automobile.

And therefore a person who wants to possess a handgun should pass a written test, should be able to pass a physical test in the actual use of the gun, and should have to demonstrate good moral character and a REASON to have the gun.

That those should be, essentially there should be a UNIFORM LAW PASSED BY CONGRESS that says that every state has to administer that, the way we say that we're not going to let you drive an automobile if you're too young, we're not going let you drive an automobile if you had a bad record, and uh, every state has a slightly different variation of that, but every state has a uniform law that guarantees our safety. I think the two things are good analogies, and I've been arguing for that since at least 1980.

I don't like him much. But he would do well. No more liberal than Rudy, and he seems to be popular.

You don't know me fool, you disown me cool ( bonus points if you know where that came from).

Without 9/11 what do you got?
Another sucker RINO waiting to get clocked.
By Thompson, a conservative figure.
And it don't matter if Rudy's numbers are smaller or bigger.

You could be right but I don't think it's automatic. He has strengths where others have weaknesses, but where others have strengths he has unknowns. And like I said, I don't like the idea of a default entry...it encourages the kind of attacks that might well leave too many scars within the party.

Rudy hasn't stuck President Bush in the back. Powell, in my opinion, has. That's the differrence for me.

Without 9/11 what do you got? A better world? What was 9/11 just a temporary burp to you?

Did you miss the part where I said I'd only vote for Rudy only if the other choice was Hillary! I'll write slower next time. Thompson is better plus he's got name recognition.

Man, I don't particularly like Rudy but you guys hate the guy yet you'll let Hillary! get elected? There, that'll show ummmm, somebody something.

Again I ask, "What is the practical difference?" I assume most intelligent life forms plan ahead. Is it an issue that you have to buy a gun in April rather than May? If so, you may be too impulsive to be a responsible gun owner.

Since I secured my Firearm Owner ID card (just before Algore was about to be elected/selected) I could have bought hundreds of guns. Frankly, I don't have the time to practice, so I only have a few. When I can find the time, I will probably have a bigger collection and my blue state regulations cannot prevent me from doing so.

I don't expect the gun laws to change as the SCOTUS will soon declare an individual right to ownership under the 2nd Amendment.

Cool, I hope they actually vote for the Constitution. That is the one thing GW has done well, the SCOTUS should always vote for the Constitution, I thought that was their job.

You're the one that brought the dumb rap crap into it, from Ice-T no doubt, a paragon of virtue and intellect.

I was writing about the 9/11-Rudy mystique. It's all media propaganda B.S. Rudy didn't do anything but give some speeches and tried to unconstitutionally extend his term as mayor.

That qualifies him for jack... And yes, the liberal RINO is virtually indistinguishable from Hillary on the issues.

The practical difference is you seem to be quite content to let others determine your rights and when and how you can practice them.

As to my personal 'impulses', and intelligence why do you feel the need for personal attacks? How have I attacked you?

Now when I come across a good deal I like to be able to complete it without someone else's say in the matter as to when and how that happens. In FL I don't need a license to buy or own a firearm and if it is individual to individual it is no ones business.

Central Pa. He did for New York what no one thought was possible. I have no fear he's going to prevent me from gun ownership, and he says he would appoint judges who would be strict on the Constitution and not try to make it a living document.

Abortion is not one of my main issues. I've asked other FReepers who howl about Rudy, "take the best anti-abortion candidate you can think of, make him President. What changes from now?"

I haven't received an answer, because the answer is.....nothing.

My hunch is that he's our next President, but I'm no prophet and it could turn out completely differrent. Politics are almost impossible to predict.

There was no personal attack intended. I just wonder why waiting a few weeks for a license is an onerous infringement on our rights.

That "others determine our rights" is the hallmark of civilization and republican democracy. We have a Constitution, the SCOTUS, and elected representatives. Their actions/decisions almost always affect our rights. That's why voting is important.

If no personal attack was intended then none was given.

I disagree. Others do not determine our rights (unless we let them). My right to keep and bare arms was enumerated in the BOR as unalienable. That means others don't get a say in it as long as I am a citizen in good standing (ie not a danger to the community).

Yes, I agree that is why voting is important. I will not give others a power to remove or limit my rights.

Can you guarantee that nobody will be attacked during the time between applying for a license and receiving it?
