Sean Hannity Interview, 2007:
HANNITY: Let me move on. And the issue of guns has come up a lot. When people talk about Mayor Giuliani, New York City had some of the toughest gun laws in the entire country. Do you support the right of people to carry handguns?
GIULIANI: I understand the Second Amendment. I support it. People have the right to bear arms. When I was mayor of New York, I took over at a very, very difficult time. We were averaging about 2,000 murders a year, 10,000...
HANNITY: You inherited those laws, the gun laws in New York?
GIULIANI: Yes, and I used them. I used them to help bring down homicide. We reduced homicide, I think, by 65-70 percent. And some of it was by taking guns out of the streets of New York City.
So if you're talking about a city like New York, a densely populated area like New York, I think it's appropriate. You might have different laws other places, and maybe a lot of this gets resolved based on different states, different communities making decisions. After all, we do have a federal system of government in which you have the ability to accomplish that.
From a 2000 interview with Tim Russert:
Tim Russert: How about registration of ALL handguns?
Rudy Giuliani: Uh, you know I'm in favor of that. I've been on your show many times, talking about, uh, the program that the president (Clinton) talked about in his state of the union speech - I have been giving speeches about and talked about on your show for the last 10 to 15 years. Which is, I believe, is that we should treat the possession of a handgun the way we treat driving an automobile.
And therefore a person who wants to possess a handgun should pass a written test, should be able to pass a physical test in the actual use of the gun, and should have to demonstrate good moral character and a REASON to have the gun.
That those should be, essentially there should be a UNIFORM LAW PASSED BY CONGRESS that says that every state has to administer that, the way we say that we're not going to let you drive an automobile if you're too young, we're not going let you drive an automobile if you had a bad record, and uh, every state has a slightly different variation of that, but every state has a uniform law that guarantees our safety. I think the two things are good analogies, and I've been arguing for that since at least 1980.
It was my way of pointing out that you sounded bitter.
And the day that posting someone's own confused, idiotic words to sink him in a primary is considered vitriolic or out of line is the day I move to a tropical island and retire from the USA.
This is child's play compared to the politics of our early presidential races.
Jawohl and Sieg Heil.
Personally, I'd expect the Constitution to be upheld everywhere in the US. America, love it or leave it.
I understand also that you're in a liberal state therefore go for liberal folks. But you can break the chain. Shoot, Jim Robinson is in an ultra liberal state and he's posted articles and made it very clear, he is as anti-Rudy as the rest of us.
I honestly believe if Rudy is run by the GOP, Obama will win. Hey.....beats Hillary (isn't that the Rudy mantra).
I just find it hard to believe that you produce hundreds of these ridiculous posts each day. I have a business to run so I can't devote the immense quantities of time and effort to this type of mental masturbation that you apparently can.
Go out and knock on doors! Do some real good.
And the practical difference is ...what?
I own handguns and had to have a (Illinois) license that took about a month to get. What is the issue?
Indeed. I was a legal NYC pistol carry permit holder, original granted in 1980; every 2 years, according to law, I renewed my permit on my birthday. No problem through 2 democrat administrations (Koch and Dinkins). When Giuliani came in, the rules changed, and after 19 years, I could not re-up. He's a gun grabber.
I find it hard to believe that if you weren't a Rudy groupie that you would care one bit about this thread or me.
I've been on here for years, sometimes posting alot, sometimes a little. Yet you choose to bitch about threads that smash mouth a liberal. Good bye.
"Go Rudy!!"
I have some other mottos:
Rudy Giuliani - an aborted fetus in every pot!
Benito Giuliani - He will make the trains run on time!
Rudy Giuliani - Similar to Hillary in policy, but looks better in a dress!
Go Rudy! Keep going! Don't come back now, y'hear?
Rudy's wife in the cabinet, while Rudy's in the closet! 2 for 1!
Giuliani/Kerick - Loving America, one woman at a time!
Rudy - Dem's da breaks!
Rudy - Making America safe for criminals again!
You and thousands and thousands of others.
Freedom!!!!
How about "Go Rudy and take your wives and Nazi ways with you".
Thanks, Pharmboy.
It's always best getting the perspective of those with the boots on the ground.
In light of recent DC turn of events, is NY looking to repeal Rudy's Regs anytime soon?
Surely you're joking.
Then FR'S started to use it on Al Gore when he started losing to W and would do his own flopsweat during speeches on the campaign trail.
As one NOT a Guliani supporter put it ......
"The word "flopsweat" is at least twenty years old, and refers to (in my own words) an extraordinarily profuse kind of sweating, typically associated with panic or psychological meltdown."
I believe that does describe some of the RudyHaters state of mind when they wake up to the latest polls....
present company excluded....BI
What does that famous Doctor always say....oh yeah....Dr. Gregory House......he says...."Everyone lies".
Thompson merely announces that he's open to the possibility of running and his poll numbers shoot into double digits. Impressive. No-nonsense persona, no personal baggage (infidelity, multiple divorces, etc.), conservative, recognizable, likable personality.....
If he plays his cards right the nomination is his.
Thanks for letting everyone know. I knew I'd seen someone who was the result of Rudy's gun grabbing. I'll make a note.
You know, here in MO we have good gun laws and a very smart Governor (I'm just sayin...)
I reside in Colorado and don't need a permit to own a gun or even to have one in my car. I don't ever intend to pay for a permit to own a gun either! Ever! Or to speak or write or breathe! That is why Rudy is exactly as likely to get my vote as Hillary is. For the Rudy supporters I have this to say: May your chains rest lightly on your shoulders.
And that is true. Best not to do so in taped interviews though. ROFL
