Steve Forbes Joins Giuliani Campaign

Steve Forbes, former Republican presidential candidate, President and Chief Executive Officer of Forbes, and Editor-in-Chief of Forbes magazine has endorsed Rudy Giuliani for President of the United States. Mr. Forbes will serve as a National Campaign Co-Chair and Senior Policy Advisor:

“I am honored to support Rudy Giuliani for President,” Steve Forbes said. “As Mayor of New York City, Rudy Giuliani showed how exercising fiscal discipline – including tax cuts – lowers deficits, spurs economic growth, and increases revenue. It is time the rest of the country benefit from a true fiscal conservative leader who gets real results.”

“Steve and I share an economic vision that embraces supply-side economics, tax relief, and spending restraint,” said Mayor Giuliani. “I look forward to working with Steve and am proud to have him as a member of our team.”

Nice addition, as those of us who value economic liberty certainly look to Mr. Forbes as a leader on that front.

Reagan being a fiscal conservative before a social conservative

And, Reagan was passionate social conservative, rather than someone further to the left on those issues than the average Democrat, who knew that he had to have an agenda that unified all wings of the party as the was the only hope for victory.

If you think throwing social conservatives, gun owners and those opposed to illegals under a bus and that it won't cost millions of votes and eventually cripple the GOP, you are a fool.

"Mr. Giuliani repeated his concerns that under the new law, the city's estimated 400,000 illegal immigrants would stop sending their children to public schools, stop reporting crimes and avoid seeking treatment for contagious diseases in city hospitals out of fear that officials would report them to the Federal Government"

...and your point is???

:O)

So does that mean you will stay away from big spending socialist... on here they call themselves "social conservatives" ... where they are able to turn a blind eye to socialism/spending of the federal government

Opposing Bush every step of the way on this website and elsewhere, that's where I was.

Apparently, you don't comprehend that idea that many conservatives are conservative both fiscally and socially and that abandoning principles on either has a devastating impact on the Republican party.

Well, given that Rudy's poll numbers are in free fall in all the polls this week, it's time to start worrying.

I believe the anti-Rudy crowd would "rather be right than be president" like the old boy used to say years ago. While that is all very admirable, it don't keep Tubba Clinton out of the White House and Bubba Clinton out of the UN.

And, you're delusional if you think those presently being polled in the national polls are 1) informed of Giuliani's positions on the issues and 2) are the type of hard-core conservatives that vote in the primaries.

In fact, polls this week show his lead already eroding rapidly.

The phrase: "Politics makes for strange bed fellows" comes to mind.
Followed closely by an "EWWWWW"

This does make things more interesting however. Wonder if Forbes will convince Rudy that Flat Tax is the way to go???

CNN/USA Today Gallup Poll. March 23-25

OF INTEREST: Giuliani's 24-percentage point lead in this poll in early March was down to 9 percentage points. Edwards, who announced recently he would stay in the race despite his wife's cancer, bumped up slightly from 9 percent in early March to 14 percent. Fred Thompson, the politician/actor who is considering a bid, was third among Republicans.

In fact, polls this week show his lead already eroding rapidly.

And like magic, suddenly the 18-month-out polls are now relevant, whereas last week when Rudy was leaving everyone in the dust...they were meaningless.

Amazing.

Fiscal conservatism, less government intervention in our lives, and public security-that is what wins elections.

Other than putting his emergency control center in the WTC, that was the biggest target on earth and hit before and naming one of the most corrupt politicos (Kerick) to head homeland security, what has Rudy done for national security since 9/11?

Most American voters don't want the Government telling us what to think and do in our private lives.

Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do. - Rudy Giuliani

Well, he managed to never replace the emergency radios that had problems during the first WTC attack.
