The gun was a probably part of a Webb plan to veto-proof the thin Democrat majority.
Hooboy - even if it was (and I'd guess that it was) inadvertent Webb is really leaving the guy out there twisting in the wind. If I'm a congressional aide you can bet the first thing I do when I pick up one of the boss's bags from now on is to see that there isn't anything in it that'll land me in prison.

This poor sucker Thompson was the klutz that carried Webb's smelly combat boots around all during the campaign so he could put them on at every stop.

I'm just curious...because I have not heard anyone mention this:
How does someone get a conceal and carry permit for an unregistered weapon? Isn't the permit specific as to the type of weapon allowed if not the specific weapon? Are the CC permits that vague that someone could carry a concealed bazooka (ridiculous example but...) if they so desired. Was this gun a semi-auto or a fully auto? I have to assume one or the other because of the extra clips. How many total rounds was this clown trying to get into the capitol? I certainly don't blame Webb for wanting to protect himself or his family in Virginia or anywhere else he may have to travel (it's a crazy world out there). However, he brings in a loaded weapon and two loaded clips that account for 30 - 45 rounds into the capitol building (one of the most secure areas in DC, besides the White House that is)?? That's some serious firepower! If I were the Capitol Hill Police, I would keep an eye on Webb since he cannot be trusted to even tell the truth about his own weapon. Could it be that he's trying to cover up the fact that he owns an unregistered weapon? There are just too many unanswered questions.

Reject the word Aid and insert the phrase body guard.
Thompson is the Senator's body guard and always carries a weapon. Regarding the word Gave, the Senator checked out the gun to the body guard. That is like one checks out a tool from the tool room, the BG checked out the weapon from the U. S Marshal's weapon closet. Webb is the marshall
The Senator is either paranoid or in deep caca. We know Cynthia McKinney had body guards. Wonder how many others? Do they also carry guns?
