Fred Thompson Is No Ronald Reagan
The American Thinker ^ | March 26, 2007 | Steven M. Warshawsky

Posted on 03/26/2007 9:49:21 AM PDT by RepublicanPatriot

Yes, Thompson has portrayed strong executive leadership in his acting roles, but what reason do we have to believe that he will exhibit the same qualities in real life? Unlike Reagan, to whom he sometimes is compared, Thompson has never led a major labor organization, never served as governor, and never been considered one of the leaders of the conservative movement in this country.

>I admire your principal but considering the stakes don't you think that attitude is a bit Don Qixotesque?<

It so happens we've been in a war of principles for about 100 years already. If those of us with principles can just hang on, we might prevail, and this nation can be restored. It's going to take alot of (toilet) flushing though.

The MSM is praying for Rudy to prevail, as they know they can destroy him.

Here's John LeBoutillier in the same vein, at newsmax:

"The fear inside the GOP should be, What else do we not know about these dysfunctional people? And will it come out after it is too late to stop him from being the GOP nominee?...And don't you just know the Democrats will have a virtual army of private eyes out digging up stuff on Giuliani and then hold it until he is the GOP nominee — and then unleash it before November 2008."

Personally I think Rudy's got more baggage than they can possibly hold that long. A liberal Republican, with all that drag---it's sheer political suicide to nominate him.

Nope, just defending a conservative from attacks from liberals. Hunter is still my first choice, but I would have no problem supporting Thompson if Hunter cannot gain traction.

"It's rather confusing, the anti-Guiliani group here has gone from Hunter to Gingrich to Thompson...all in about one month!
Excellent point....LOL!"

Who are all of these people you refer to?
I am still for Hunter, but if he doesn't make it, Thompson is a viable conservative whom I could vote for. I don't know anyone who switched from Hunter to Newt.

Good find. Anyone who says that a conservative candidate with a Reagan platform cannot win in 2008 is a RINO loser and should be ignored.

Looks like the Rudy bots might be a little afraid that their attempted anointment of Giuliani might get sidetracked by someone with some legitimate conservative credentials.

The ones they are trying to destroy BEFORE the fact by blacking them out are the true Conservatives with the biggest possibilities of saving America. They are the real threat to the anti-American MSM.

I would look to his heart and what he wants to accomplish. There are people who can handle the details. That's what staff is for. Then also, look to his competition. What have Obama, Hillary Clinton or Edwards ever done? What experience do they have? None of them have been governors, and I note, nor do any of them have any military experience.

Thompson may not be ideal, but he should match up well with any of those three. (I have not decided on any GOP candidate to back at this stage, however.)

Many of us, including the founder of FR are beside ourselves wondering how any conservative could vote for Rudy.

Jim Rob hasn't weighed in on this or anything, since GOE. Hope he does soon! It seemed he was very bummed out about the Rudy boom.

Nobody but Ronald Reagan can be Ronald Reagaon.

As long as he ain't Rudy Guiliani, I'll be happy.

My socialist Democrat aunt still rails on about how stupid Eisenhower was, and he won the war in Europe as Supreme Commander. Apparently, the only Republican POTUS the Dems thinks had any brains was Nixon, and he was eeevil!

If anyone thinks that Obama or Hillary have IQs above the "high average" range (typical for the average college graduate", they should have quit smoking dope a few decades ago.

I imagine the MSM is mortified by the possiblity of a Thompson run : ) A debate between Thompson and Hillary would be tantamount to manslaughter......

ROTF!

I don't believe that is right. Gingrich has many of the same
immoral habits that Giuliani does, plus he refused to support his children after his divorce, and their church was taking up collections to pay the bills.

I was impressed by DH, but as a native Californian, I was pessimistic about his chances, since I had NEVER heard of him until this campaign.

I have wanted a chance to vote for Fred for 10 years.
