Fred Thompson for president?
It's pretty obvious why he's getting consideration -- the Republican party is a conservative outfit but neither of its two leading presidential contenders is solidly conservative. That leaves a gap -- the space that George Allen or perhaps Bill Frist was expected to fill. Their absence gave Mitt Romney the opportunity to occupy the the conservative niche, and for me he does. However, many conservatives have their doubts on this score, or they doubt his electability. And even I have to admit that right now Thompson appears more electable than Romney.
In a sense, then, Thompson looks like the perfect blend of the Allen/Frist/Romney/Gingrich and McCain/Giuliani "factions." He seems to combine the conservatism of the former cluster with at least some of the popularity and stature of the latter pairing. This is not to suggest that Thompson is a national hero like McCain and Giuliani. But in addition to a long and distinguished record of public service, he has the good fortune to play a distinguished public servant on television. Millions of Americans see Thompson exercise sound judgment every week as the district attorney on "Law and Order."
But the point isn't whether we're seeing the real Fred Thompson on the show; the point is that, if Thompson runs, millions of America will see the character when they see the candidate, and to that extent will like what they see.
I'm told by a source who was there that Thompson was a reasonably diligent member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
What will matter is whether Thompson is prepared to campaign diligently for the nomination. If so, he likely will represent a force to be reckoned with.

See my tagline....
What is Fred Thompson waiting for? He has not set up one of those exploratory committees. He has had no fund raisers or even started to develop a web site. Florida is talking about moving it's primary to January and a lot of states will have theirs in February. He better get moving if he is going to do this rather than thinking everyone will know him because he is on Law and Order.
Right now I am sitting out the next presidential election. I voted for baby Bush twice and got the shaft as he flooded the nation with illegal immigrants and sold us out to multinational corporations. Screw the Republicans. If they don't give me a real Republican to vote for, I simply won't vote.
Yes, I've seen how wretched, duplicitous and insane the librat Congress is. Too bad. No more president Rinos for me.
If Thompson runs, he has my vote. If not, McCain, Giuliani and Romney can suck wind. I won't vote.
Have you even considered a third party? The only message you're sending by staying home is that you don't care, which I'm sure you do.
Personally, I like the Constitution Party. Right now I like that more conservative candidates are popping up, but if Guiliani/McCain/Romney win the nomination, I'll give the Constitution Party a good look.
Whoever told you that about Fred, is absolutely correct.
I wasn't always happy with him as my senator, but so far looks like the best thing that we have going.
Let's not get carried away here. GWB has been very good on taxes, he's appointed two good U.S. Supreme Court justices, he has boosted military spending and pay, he has continued and expanded ballistic missile defense, etc. GWB, despite his faults, has been far better that any Democrat who has even run for President in over forty years would have been.
What faults?
He is a genuine, thinking conservative. Read this page from his old Senate website and poke around in the links, there are plenty more pages. The more you read, the more you respect him.

"Spending like a drunken Democrat" comes to mind.
Thank you, Graymatter.
has my vote.
"What is Fred Thompson waiting for?"
Money, but that is ok. He has the time.
Run, Fred, RUN, ping!
On close examination of his record, one finds that Fred Thompson is a man of principle. He has hardly changed in his essentials, after some 30 years. Therefore I have confidence in his ability to lead.
Some of the other candidates seem quite unprincipled to me. If a man must equivocate and mutate to get political traction, if he goes about disguising himself, reinventing himself --- then he has no principles, he has only ambitions.
Fred stands on solid bedrock when it comes to principles. Having read his book, and researched his record thoroughly, I fully support him. With pen in hand.
RUN, FRED!
bump!
This is crazy and stupid. I was responding to your preposterous claim. If you want to see America destroyed, keep doing exactly what you are doing, you fool!
This is true about CIA, State, and many other federal agencies. This will always be a problem for our side. One can make the argument that GWB should have done more to counter this, but such arguments as I've heard typically lack specifics. The federal agencies are filled with liberals, some of whom will do anything to oppose conservatism. Coming up with practical countermeasures to this reality is a lot harder than identifying the problem.
He can't. Have you looked at any California election results lately?
Simply because he's black? Let's leave that nonsense to the socialistic America-haters. Ours is supposed to be a color-blind movement and society.
You're joking, right?
