Key Senate Republicans on Sunday urged President George W. Bush to compromise with Congress over White House aides' testimony as support for U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales eroded further.
Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Gonzales would have to step down if he did not tell the truth when he told Congress that he was not involved in discussions about a group of fired U.S. prosecutors at the center of the Washington controversy.
Sen. Chuck Hagel, a Nebraska Republican and possible presidential candidate, told ABC's "This Week" that Gonzales lost credibility and Bush should "fix the problem" and avoid a court fight with Congress.
"I want them in the open, under oath, publicly, where both Republican senators and Democratic senators can ask questions," Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy of Vermont told CBS's "Face the Nation."
Specter said Bush should avoid a court fight and compromise with lawmakers.
"This matter is so important to the day-in and day-out functioning of the Department of Justice that the air has to be cleared," Specter said. "I think the president is wrong when he refuses to have a transcript."
Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina who serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee, agreed.

But the solution is NOT to replace them with more treasonous Democrats, but to capture the Presidency for the Republicans in 2008 AND retake Congress for the Republicans, where these RINOs will have less power, THEN, after we have a strong majority, THEN defeat them in primaries and hopefully have conservative Republicans actually win in the general eelction to strengthen the Republican majority.
These people are despicable. But on the other hand, President Bush has not exactly been in any knock down drag 'em out fights with Congress yet. This is as good a time to start as any.
Well, I must say, I think Gonzalez was a lousy appointment, and he has behaved like an idiot. Why on earth did he say (if he did say) that he had nothing to do with the firings? Of course he knew about them. He would have been delinquent in his job if he didn't. You don't fire US Attorneys without involving the boss in the decision.
Unfortunately, he has been repeatedly been delinquent in his job. Now we see the results. Whole divisions of the department who are undermining him and leaking emails to the Democrats.

What would be nice would be if the President would pick the most important issues and fight with whomever needs to be fought with.
I'm not convinced that claiming the White House cannot be subpoenaed is the right fight - he gonna lose that one based on every precedent back to 1821.
We have more pressing issues, Iran, North Korea, cutting spending and immigration - those are worth fighting.

If the Republican Senators and Congressmen who didn't get reelected in Nov 2006, want to know the reason - they should look squarely at these three "useful idiots".
Why should I care, much less expend time, effort, and money for Republicans that are tripping over themselves to fall for all the Democrats' games and help undermine the President?
There are NO republicans acting any different that the democrats, much less showing any spine or courage. Why does it matter if they have an R or D after their name?
I blame myself partly for this mess. I was seduced by the "A RINO is better than a DEM" mantra. Now, you cant tell the difference between most Congressional Republicans and Democrats. The new Mantra? "Elect Rudy, he's not Hillary!"

The last thing Bush should do on this issue is AVOID a fight.As usual these people got nothing but smoke and mirrors and of course the mainstream media hype.This President like every other one before him has been given the right to hire and fire Federal Prosecutors,and to surrender this privilege would be a big mistake !!!
He is not running but "they" still are
