Fifteen British sailors and Marines are being held by Iranian forces, says the Ministry of Defence.
More follows...
major ping
i'll tell you what, Imanutjob has some big brass ones too try and pull a stunt like this on the SAME day he his flying over to the US to address the UN.
There has got to be a LOT of tension over in the Arabian Gulf right now with our 2 carrier task groups, Iranian naval war games, and now this kidnapping. I've got to believe our sailors over there are on hair trigger alert
detain him
No question ... the UK has been a staunch supporter of the U.S.. In addition to troops in Iraq they also have a strong military presence in Afghanistan.
"In addition, the U.S. has accused elements of the Iranian government of supporting sectarian violence in Iraq and supplying insurgents with explosives. Several Iranian personnel have been taken into custody in U.S. raids."

First Report from WP:
Iran Nabs British Sailors in Iraq Waters......A Pentagon official said the Britons were in two inflatable boats from the frigate H.M.S. Cornwall during a routine smuggling investigation, said the official, who spoke on condition on anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about the incident.
He said the confrontation happened as the British contingent was traveling along the boundary of territorial waters between Iran and Iraq. They were detained by the Revolutionary Guard's navy, he said.
A fisherman who said he was with a group of Iraqis from the southern city of Basra fishing in Iraqi waters in the northern area of the Gulf said he saw the Iranian seizure. The fisherman declined to be identified because of security concerns.
"Two boats, each with a crew of six to eight multinational forces, were searching Iraqi and Iranian boats Friday morning in Ras al-Beesha area in the northern entrance of the Arab Gulf, but big Iranian boats came and took the two boats with their crews to the Iranian waters."
The minute Ahmaimanutjob lands on US soil, take him into custody.
"There has got to be a LOT of tension over in the Arabian Gulf right now with"
The only tension rests in the bowels of the US Senate and Congress liberals in this event circumventing their ability to defund the war effort if it escalates. Lots of bowels sounds eminating from Pelosi, Biden, Kennedy and that crew of morons...
It'd be awesome if the US, in conjunction with other allies suspended landing rights of the Iranian delegation until the situation's resolve.
"No doubt Iran will release them shortly rather then lose the goodwill of much of Europe and the American Press"
,...or having the Brits open a can of "Falkland Island Styled whoop A$$" on them!
"Preview" is your friend.
Yes I meant KICK......as I posted a correction in #56
Yes, but what does it mean coming from a liberal Democrat? A real threat, backed up by the probability of imminent military action, or a UN-style, "I plan to have the Security Council draft a strong condemnation of this act of war, indluding threats of sanctions"?
Right now I tend toward the latter but really hope that isn't the case. Because if it isn't the case, there's plenty of room for the scenario I outlined to take place. Anything else would be be appeasement and a victory for the mad mullahs.
P.S.: if they did take Americans, the president would be in an excellent position against the left, the UN AND Tehran. As I explained about the terrorist mentality in 2001, this is counting coup. A game which they've lost before.
which is a precursor to the "Letter of great concern"..
"According to Sky News, Iranian navy vessels raided into Iraqi waters and took the brits captive.
Let's hope they wandered into Iraqi waters by mistake.
Still, how can 15 of them not know they were into Iraqi waters?
Whatever the reasons they got into Iraqi jurisdiction, it's an infringment of international laws.
The only feeling that I want expressed, is the vibration in the Persian Gulf as three carrier groups head for Iranian waters.
