CHAPEL HILL, N.C., March 22 _ John Edwards, the North Carolina Democrat, said today that his wifes cancer had returned, but that his bid for the presidency goes on strongly.
The campaign goes on, the campaign goes on strongly, he said, with his wife, Elizabeth, at his side.
Mr. Edwards said he learned earlier this week that the cancer had reappeared in his wifes rib cage and that the couple recognized that it was no longer curable, though it could be managed with treatment.

This is horrible!
I feel badly for them. I hope she can pull through, and maybe before too much time a cure will finally be found!
there will be pressure on the person to run even if he doesn't particularly want to
There is for Fred Thompson, yayyy!!!!
My 'disappointment' stems from the news i'd heard earlier today that Edwards was 'suspending' his campaign. Which was an honorable thing to do, if not drop out altogether.
With the kind of people they are bet you dimes to donuts W called him before Hillary or Obama even thought about it.
"In his mind he is thinking of the sympathy vote."
I certainly hope not.
They don't get much more sensitive than that, do they? Maybe he plans on channeling her spirit later.
*Like he did the spirit of the baby in a successful malpractice suit for those who've forgotten about that.
Cancer is terrible. Prayers for her and the Edwards family.
there is no cancer that 'can be managed', she doesn't have a long time to live, and with those little ones!!! Even if she makes it 5 years, the last couple aren't going to be very pretty...I've been through it several times with relatives.
.
I hope the best for her. Cancer is ugly no matter what stage its in.
I think that's a fair statement. Elizabeth Edwards strikes me as a strong woman that doesn't want her health to be the thing that takes him out of the running. Who knows... she could be *forbidding* him to drop out because of this.
I think it would speak better of him to step out *anyway*, but in the end, it's their lives and their decision to make. I've got way better reasons to dislike Edwards. There's not much substance here.
They can do what they want, and I do not plan to make additonal comments on this thread, or on others, criticizing them -- but I will make one last observation:
Ann Coulter's observation about the 9/11 widows still holds. The Democrats like to be victims. They like to be untouchable. How much would YOU be willing to bet that Jonathan Edwards, during a speech or debate about Health Insurance will not -- tearfully -- remind the crowd that his wife is fighting for her life.
If his campaign continues, I will say no more words of criticism.
If he uses her as a political prop -- he's an a**.
He is playing the women sympathy angle and his wife is a witting dupe or prop. He will mention her courage and her sacrifice and the need for stem cell research and he will be lionized by the left and the Oprah cult.
THIS IS NOT ODD!
This is about federal MATCHING FUNDS.
$$$$$$$$$$$$
Follow the money.
I am sure his wife has agreed to this. If she wants him to forge on, then we should respect that. She's the patient after all. We all deal with adversity in our own way.
No way that she can travel while in chemo. Brutal process. Just as she will start to feel better from a treatment she gets to have the next one. Constant nausea and extreme weakness. If one has a chance of recovery it beats dying but not by much.
If Hilliary perceives this as a campaign enhancer I'm sure she will be out looking for an eye of newt, and toe of frog to add to her cauldron.
Blind ambition. Anyone who wants to be President that bad, doesn't deserve to be President.
