I noticed she seemed to have lost quite a bit of weight too.

Agreed. The wise, correct - and smart - course of action would have been to spend the time with his wife, helping to care for his children during her remaining time.

THEN, he would have had almost unbeatable appeal in a future campaign. Think of it: a handsome, charismatic candidate who dropped out of the last race to be with his ailing wife, put family before politics, etc. He'd have the female & sympathy vote nailed down. Heck, even I would admire the man!

Now, rightly or wrongly, he just looks like a cad whose political ambitions take precedence over all else.

You asked if the other poster was an oncologist, as though only oncologists have relevant opinions or thoughts about cancer. Your post completely dismissed the validity of the other poster's opinion. Oncologists are not the only people who can speak authoritatively about cancer.

They cherry-pick their "moral" views, obviously.

Rudy decided not to run, which was his right. Edwards and his wife choose to run, which is their right.

No, it's not. Be careful about throwing about blanket observations. There are many many people fighting advanced cancers and while many of may likely succomb to them, a surprising number won't.

Edwards is the every man candidate who wants to end the two Americas. He is wealthy and ambitiuos so he decides to be President, would you or I spend the last year or two of our wifes life with strangers in hotel ball rooms.

No "evidence", but it won't be long before it is clear why a press conference was necessary to announce no changes to his campaign. I'm holding a press conference tommorrow at noon to announce that I will be going to work on Monday, just like the other 240 odd days of the year.

I know all about living with cancer, and quite a bit about the disease itself, from my research.

By the way, one never knows how a disease will progress. I knew someone who had prostate cancer and was given 2 years to live. He lived close to 10. I knew someone who had (the non-smoking) type of lung cancer and he was also given 2 years to live. He too lived for 10 years. Ovarian cancer is a very brutal cancer, and most die in 2-3 years. Yet I know some who are surviving years longer.

OMG! How unselfish of this man that he would do this for his country!

The depth of patriotism is...is....is stupendous.

George Washington as Father of our country? Only four faces on Mt. Rushmore?

Why bother with an election, this man obviously is more concerned about the country and able to bring a Utopian existence to the entire planet.

Bartender! Breck hairspray for everyone!

You are full of crap. The other poster claimed to "know all about it." Something that someone who is an oncologist might validly make, but not someone who had a relative with it. And "knowing all about it" is not a claim I'd make. And no I'm not an oncologist, but one of my past jobs was analyzing data from clinical trials for cancer treatments, so I know a fair amount about life expectancies vs staging with and wihout treatment etc. but very little about the clinical side of it.

We all like to hope for the best, but the life tables for stage IV of any sort are pretty depressing.

OK, I'm living it right now with a mother with a stage iv cancer. I'm doing everything in my power to keep her upbeat, optimistic and fighting because every day with her in it is a gift. I'm glad she is not a member of this board, because your callus dismissal of the psychological aspects of cancer survival can do a lot of damage to those who are fighting and who have faith that they can beat the odds. In short, you are an ass.

"I'm sorry for the children and for her. ~But he's such an opportunist."

I am sorry for Mrs. Edwards also, but she and her husband should spend time with their children! The children are the ones who will suffer the most with all their campaigning, and all the while wondering when they will be losing their mom. So sad!

On an individual basis this is true. But taking the patient population as a whole it is not an encouraging story.
