Chicago -- This wasn't any barfight caught on tape. An angry man pummels a much smaller female bartender. As it turns out, he's a Chicago police officer and late Tuesday night he was taken into custory. Craig Wall has the complete details on this exclusive story.
A lover's spat? Did I miss something in the story?
I replied before I personally saw the video. If I had seen it prior, I wouldn't have taken my position...obviously.
It looked like a diner to me more than a bar...so a frying pan swung at his head ala Barry Bonds would have done the trick.
This would not have happened at my favorite watering hole, but the Junction Café is just a bit redneck - even the Black, Latino and Asian patrons are a bit redneck. We love our bartenders and waitresses. In the years I have been going there similar incidents have only happened a couple times. Never has the assailant laid a hand on the woman. Customers have jumped in before the bouncer could intervene.
In the Chicago case, it appeared that there were few customers, but a well placed beer bottle to the cops head while he was concentrating on the bartender would have stopped the attack.
Don't forget the responding police officers are they guy's friends . . . feel like "accidentally hitting your head getting into the squad car?"

I would have kicked his ass, too. Nobody hits a lady whie B-chan is around.
That being said: anybody intervening to stop this guy would have paid dearly for their actions. There are good cops and bad cops, but in the end Blue looks out for Blue. Cop pride will not tolerate a "civilian" laying hands upon a cop. Anybody who tried to take this guy down would have found himself looking down the barrel of the entire Chicago PD. Touch a cop, even in a good cause, and you're asking for harassment, intimidation, maybe a good old-fashoned Rodney King-style ass-kicking after a routine traffic stop, say ("He grabbed for my gun, Your Honor!")
I'd have done it anyway, though, same as the rest of us.
Yes, I know.
I have had many LEO acquaintances (only one who was more like a real friend). I have little respect for local law enforcement.
bttt
It's frequently difficult to find a prosecutor who will go after a cop, for any reason. They're on the same team, you see.
That was my thought, too. Knowing he's a cop, I'd probably be hesitant to step in, too.
Heh, hold ma beer...
It could be but I really think it comes down to a godless society.
I think you hit on the key....police officers must be God fearing and have Him as their model for righteousness. I had not stopped to consider that I live in the most godless area of the United States, The Pacific Northwest.
5 years?! Holy crap, are you a relative of the cop?!
He damn near killed that woman. He should get 20....minimum just for the beating. His buddies and the one that tried to bribe the bartender should get 10 years for bribery. ..
After their buttholes get widened 5" in prison, let the Feds have them.
...and I am as Pro-cop as anyone.
Five years? Lock him up for life for misuse of authority!
This woman beating cop threatened her if she talked
that he would plant drugs on her and her family,
putting them away. Take another look at Tulia.

The real heart of the matter is the heresy of the
'evil substance.'and how it facilitates the
witch hunt phenomena. Anyone can purchase an evilsubstance,
plant it on a person's property and inform the authorities
by screaming 'WITCH!'
There are
endless counts of officers being caught buying drugs when
it is not possible for them to use them because they are
tested. What else are they purchasing them for? Who knows
how many innocent people are in prison? Everyone should
demand the release of all imprisoned for mere possession of
a substance.
Oh, I did not fully explain. I meant 5 years in the Chinese/American prisoner exchange program. He goes there and one of theirs comes here. Kind of a joint training programing.
I'm shocked at that too. If I'd been there I would have either shot the bastard or put a hurtin' on him. I don't tolerate men beating up on women.
My thoughts exactly. In the back of my head I am weighing stepping into a fight with a cop and providing for my family.
Call me a coward.
"I'm surprised that the "defend-all-cops-no-matter-what" brigade hasn't shown up on this thread."
they have been unusually quiet on this and the other chicago police incident thread.
