Aren't the "efficient lightbulbs" filled with toxic chemicals? Fluorescent light bulbs have a small amount of mercury in them.

Aren't the "efficient lightbulbs" filled with toxic chemicals?Yes - mercury. Not only that, but if you put them in poorly ventilated fixtures that are typical for incandescent bulbs, they overheat and fail at a far shorter life than the incandescents they replace and can catch on fire. (personal experience on this one)
All this shows is that Harmon is a total moron, and probably an excellent representative of the people who voted for her.

Yes and no...
Modern incandescent bulbs are filled with argon these days. They get hotter than they used to you might have noticed. This is because the gas conducts heat from the filament to the glass.

They have a small measure of mercury which is a major pollutant and requires HAZ MAT disposal. You cant throw them in the Garbage for the local landfill. You must turn them into a recycling center. Most recycling centers are not set up to deal with hazardous recycling.
