Hate to see him go this way, but I have no desire to see his career furthered just because he's hispanic.

Nice post. One voice of reason and support in a sea of whining and complaint by fair weather supporters.

That is the kiss of death. Gonzales is toast.

You may be right.

"Only because of self inflicted wounds...."

Who cares? I don't. There's such a thing as loyalty. The Democrats don't. They just want another scalp. They know they can roll Bush whenever they want. And the conservatives don't appear to be helping very much.

Thank you very much for the historical perspective - especially with respect to St. Ronald, the "true" Conservative.

"No character, no morality, no strength, no resolve."

You've got to be kidding.

You can disagree with the President on any issue you wish, but besmirching his character without evidence is not acceptable.

All that is necessary to say is;

1) he lost the House,

2) he lost the Senate,

3) He has lost the momentum...period,

4) his justice dept is sending Border Patrol officers to jail for enforcing the law,

5) illegal immigration is out of control,

6) the border remains open....,

7) Iran & Venezuela thumb their noses at us and the rest of the World laughs,

8) Latin America no longer respects us,

9) shall I go on....?

Yup, he's gone.

He shouldn't be gone due to the firings but there's plenty of reasons he should be replaced, the wrist slap to Sandy Berger and the prosecution of the border agents comes to mind, but not for these firings.

I can only cross my fingers and hope his replacement comes in and FIRES ALL of U.S. attorneys on day one.

re: TMZ
A Call to Sift Through Gonzales Emails

The newly released e-mails on the U.S. Attorney firings are here. TPM Muckraker is enlisting its readers to pore through them. But you know that the people who read that blog won’t pick out the parts that aid the Administration’s case.

That’s where you come in. I am enlisting the Great Patterico Army — all few dozen of you — to look through these and tell us what the media is going to leave out.

It’s not about defending the Administration. It’s about keeping the other side (Democrats and Big Media, but I repeat myself) honest. Or some reasonable facsimile thereof.

"The trouble with your analogy is Reagan would fight back "

REALLY?! Did you actually read my original post?

In 1987, Reagan faced the same political problems that Bush is facing now and he replaced FIVE members of his cabinet to include Weinberger (Defense) and Meese (Justice) . . . Additionally, he (actually Nancy) replaced his Chief of Staff (Baker for Regan). . . Many 'conservatives' screamed at the time that Reagan was 'caving' to the Democrats -- Buckeley, et al, were apoplectic! . . . Bottom line: In the face of UNPRECEDENTED personal and political attacks, Bush hasn't come close to Reagan's level of appeasement in 1987 nor will he!

Great post. I am really sick and tired of those cowards and defeatists who claim to be on our side but savagely attacking President Bush as worst as any left wing lunatic.

No character, no morality, no strength, no resolve.

So babygene...you sit out there in whatever cubbyhole you occupy, anonymously dismissing the character, morality, strength and resolve of GWB. Well, I, for one, bow down before your shining wonderfulness. After all, the character, morality, strength and resolve it takes to anonymously spew your thoughts on an internet forum far surpasses those qualities in anyone else.

Nah...GWB doesn't have character, morality, strength, or resolve. How could he? After all, he doesn't see the world the way you do. He didn't sit in some dark corner hiding behind some silly screen name while trying to out-petty and out-snipe equally anonymous people on an internet forum.

Nope, not GWB. He stepped into the toughest political arena on the planet, won the presidency only after prevailing through a frightening power grab by Al Gore, started putting together his first administration late as a result, then got hit with the first attack by a foreign force on the continental US since 1812. Followed simultaneously by the first bioweapons attack on the US.

And how did he handle himself -- this man of "no character, no morality, no strength, no resolve?" Hmmmm? At a time when no one knew if more attacks were coming, he went onto the battlefield just four days after the 9/11 attacks, stood on a burned-out hulk of a fire engine with his arm around a retired firefighter who had come to Ground Zero to help, and said, "I can hear you. I can hear you. The rest of the world hears you. And the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon." And he meant it.

In October 2001, he stood all alone on the pitcher's mound at Yankee Stadium. At a moment in time when no one could be sure what the terrorists would do next, wearing a bulletproof vest under his windbreaker, this man of "no character, no morality, no strength, no resolve" threw out the first pitch in the World Series -- a perfect strike -- and lifted the hearts of New Yorkers and Americans everywhere.

In the years since, despite monumental pressure both domestically and worldwide -- and even from his own wife when she thought he was using too much "cowboy" language -- GWB has stood firm on the overarching issue of our time. He kept his promise made on the same day he went to Ground Zero and stood on that fire engine:

"I will not forget this wound to our country or those who inflicted it. I will not yield; I will not rest; I will not relent in waging this struggle for freedom and security for the American people."

Has he been a perfect president? No -- but anyone who expects perfection from any human being is doomed to constant disappointment. But unlike you and others of your ilk, babygene, he doesn't have the luxury of making pronouncements willy nilly without consequences.

And what have all you brave internet warriors done in support of this man you so easily revile? Just spent your time spewing sewer bilge out there in the dark while patting yourselves on the back for having so much "character, morality, strength, and resolve." Must be great to be such a shining example of wonderfulness.

shall I go on....?

Sure, if you want to keep showing your immense ignorance of our system of government and the limitations of the presidency, by all means, go on. But as you keep going on, you may try wrapping whatever intellect you have around this truth: no American president governs by fiat.

The trouble with your analogy is Reagan would fight back...

The trouble with you internet jockeys, South Texan, is that your knowledge and/or remembrance of the real Reagan presidency would fill a thimble.

But then again, we know all about leftists and 'serious charges,' don't we?

Facts are stubborn things...and the political fact is, the Republican party is digging a hole...this cannot be denied...the FACTS speak for themslves.

As far as you" leftist" label/comment....that seems to be the natural response of the ignorant that refuse to see the elephant in the corner of the room.

I want the House & Senate back! I want strong border enforcement, I want to WIN the war....NOW! ...................and I want to reduce taxes and spending....

I want Reagan back!
